MacBook Air screen is flickering

Unless people have been reporting it directly to Apple then they wouldn't be looking into it. I know I reported my issue twice. The more people do that, the more chance they'll think it's an issue and look into it.

I'm now also experiencing this issue ans have reported it. Would love to here an official statement from someone Apple.

I had this problem mentioned in the article back in 2010, but the current issue is much worse. Still, I'm hoping that there's just something wrong with the latest system and it will be fixed quickly. Sure would be nice if Apple would say something official. My MacBook Air is virtually unusable without an external monitor, because I never know when the screen will go out on me.

I've found a clumsy workaround for now. Open Terminal, and type:

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0

You'll need your password. It will prevent the Macbook from going into hiberation (deep sleep). This WILL effect battery life and will put the macbook at risk of not being able to hibernate from sleep if the battery gets low, of this I'm not sure. To be clear, the macbook will still sleep, just in "stand by" mode instead of "hiberation mode".

But it does mean a very fast startup from lid closed and no graphic glitches. You'll just have to be careful of not running the machine dead while the lid is down.

To revert to the original settings:

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3

FYI this change results in faster start up and I lost 4% battery life from being in normal sleep for 18 hours. Acceptable to me.

I am hoping that the forth-coming 10.8.4 update will resolve this problem

I had seen some other articles in on 10.8.4 indicating that testers should be looking to test Nvidia graphics in particular. Fingers crossed.

Also in the above link, there is a further suggestion that apple has fixed the 'wake from Wifi' issues - again fingers crossed as both issues aflict my various Mac at one stage or another!

Did anyone that had that problem install 10.8.4? Does this update solve the problem?

So far so good here with 10.8.4. My 2010 13" MBA hasn't flickered since updating yesterday.

Same here. Haven't seen a flicker since I upgraded ~2 weeks ago.

I've just started to see this problem a few hours ago on my 2010 13' base model Macbook Air. Only the left half of my screen flickers, and I am on 10.8.4. Also, I didn't have any problems before. I guess I'll have to take it to the Apple Store if this continues.

My wife's 13" MBA 2010 on 10.8.4 has just started to get this problem! Joy!

I can't offer much hope to anyone having these problems. For a long time I was willing to believe the problem was software related, mainly because there was an early driver problem when the 2010 models were released. Unfortunately, my flickering problems grew gradually more frequent and more severe until I was reduced to using the laptop with an external monitor most of the time. Since the external monitor continued to work just fine, while the laptop screen eventually would not even light up sometimes, I had to admit that the problem was almost certainly hardware. (Maddeningly, right up to the end there were days that the built-in screen would work just fine for short periods of time.)

I took my Air to the Apple Store and opted for the flat-rate service. Now my baby is like brand new. Sad that the original display/wiring didn't hold up for more than about 2.5 years, but if I get another two years out of this one, I'll be happy.

Same issue here, began in 2012. I have the MacBook Air Late-2010 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM 128GB HD & nVidia 320M GFX card. Put in repair shop yesterday, been told this is a recurring issue and pretty common with the Airs. I have been quoted £160 GBP to fix.

Has anyone else been quoted for a fix for this? If so please post so I can compare labour costs before I decide on the next course of action.

hi, i have 2015 early macbook air . after playing some youtube videos. the screen strats to flicker. the problem gets solved as soon as i restart it. any solutions?
