STOP CORRECTING ME!!!

This is annoying, it happens in both Mail and Safari, I type in text and my Mac keeps INSISTING on replacing the text with what it thinks isbetter, it insists on changing my ORD to ODD, no matter how many times I change it to ORD, still ODD....

Hey, Apple, PUHLEEEZE, I wanna fly toORD, Chicago, IL, USA, not to ODD which is in some weird place calledOodnadatta, somewhere in the Tundra of central Australia.......

Is there a way to tell my Mac to be a bit more humble and polite, less insisting it's always right? Correcting my typos, great, please, keep up the good job, but hey, I wanna fly to Chicago, not to some Oodnadattaplace, where I'd be probably eaten by the local cannibals, all because of YOU !!!!!!!........

...Actually, refering to what parker612 said above, when I opened this window to reply, the "Correct Spellong Automatically" was not grayed out BUT STILL CHECKED.... I had to uncheck it....

But the problem is, the alternative to being obnoxious and keep changing what I type -- IS NOT DOING ANY SPELL-CHECK AT ALL.... This is not right, all -- or nothing... I don't like this kind of approach, dear Apple.

Yes, that's now making me happy with Mail.

However, here, typing this text in Safari, after selecting Edit>Spelling and Grammar>Check Spelling While Typing --- Safari would nott showw anny indiccation that I amm making anny typose....

The reply boxes are not real text fields, they are Jive javascript widgets of some sort, so Safari's spell checking isn't active. You must use the spell checker provided by the site.

And, I see Eric has posted essentially the same thing.
