How to restore my Ipod touch to factory settings

My daughters ipod says that is disabled and to connect it to itunes. I did that and itunes says that it could not connect to the ipod because there is a passcode lock on it.

To make maters worse, she some how managed to make the lock button not work.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

To restore from backup see:

iOS: How to back up

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

Where is says use recovery mode use one of these programs

The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
