Upgrading OS X can reveal problems with previously installed programs or third party system modifications that may not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

This is just a user to user support forum so you may have to be patient. A thorough description of your system, including which of the dozens of Mac models you have, how much memory is installed, and the amount of free space remaining on your hard disk for example, will help others diagnose your problem. Be specific and try to limit your troubleshooting to one issue at a time.

If you do not receive any helpful answers after a reasonable amount of time, a few hours at least, just post a new question. In the meantime read some of these Apple support documents that may prove useful:

General purpose Mac troubleshooting guide: Isolating issues in Mac OS X

Creating a temporary account to isolate user-specific problems: Isolating an issue by using another user account

Memory limitations: Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used

Identifying resource hogs and other tips: Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime

To identify potential hardware problems: Apple Hardware Test

To resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance, use Disk Utility.

Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode

To repair a potentially corrupt hard disk, so that you may recover its data prior to replacing it, and subsequently reinstall Mac OS X: OS X Recovery (applies only to Lion and later versions of OS X)

I had similar issues until I replaced my video card. I did this with 10.8.2, I had no problems with it all. Now, following the "upgrade" to 10.8.3, every time I get a password prompt, whether it be for my administrator password or a website password, my system freezes. Not only that, I have to wait several minutes before I can reboot. All video drivers are current. I am so tired of this crap. I haven't fully checked it out, because of all these **** freezes and waiting, but it seems happen more with safari than with say Foxfire.

I have this problem too.

I can reliably reproduce it by

- Opening an app that uses the discrete graphics

- pressing command shift 3 to take a screen shot

This causes my mac to freeze for about a minute

I have a top of the line retina mac book pro.

I get the same freezing at other times - often when switching from skype to some other app, and other random times.

You must be a mind-reader. You have what problem too? The OP hasn't even been back to explain his issue properly, gave no indication of how he updated to 10.8.3 and never even mentioned Graphic Cards as Mr. Willis did in his 'I have the same problem' response. So as you do not have the same problem, kindly start your own thread to deal with your individual issues.

Thanks

Excuse me Pete, who are you? Are you a moderator, or some suitable representative of this forum, or just some self appointed policeman.

Whatever the case, you need to read the OP's post, and mine, more carefully. In fact, you need to actually read them, because it's pretty clear.

I have the exact same problem as the OP: it is stated in the subject: my mac freezes a lot.

His does, and so does mine.

The OP said he updated to 10.8.3. So did I.

He stated, quite clearly in is own poor english, that the freezes started happening after he updated to 10.8.3.

We have the same problem. I don't plan to start a new thread. I think it is more helpful for the community to see that a set of users are all experiencing the same problem after updating to 10.8.3. If/when the problem is shown to be actually more than one problem, then it might be time to start new threads. IMHO.

That should win you friends. Please post where the OP mentions

- Opening an app that uses the discrete graphics

- pressing command shift 3 to take a screen shot

That they also has

I have a top of the line retina mac book pro.

That none of John's Links worked for them

Note: this is not an issue caused by any of the basic troubleshooting items listed by John Galt. Those are a distraction from the real issue.

That you suffer yours when, as he does,

when i opening the photoshop

and when i am browsing youtube

And please don't make fun of his language, these forums are not exclusive to those from english speaking countries.

Trying to keep slighty related posts in one thread is more confusing than anything. Why did you choose to threadjump this one instead of the other 50 or so going around the net? Many which give answers to the posters issues?

Anyway, hopefully we can fix the OP's problem .And if yours is the 'same, exact problem' then there you are! But adding non related comments, as you are, will only confuse the OP's issues.

Cheers

Pete

I didn't make fun of the OP's english. In fact I said it is clear. I acknowledged that it was poor, which it is and there is no criticism there. I acknoweldged that it is poor for a reason: as a possible explanation for why you failed to appreciate what it said.

The OP said:

"My mac freezes a lot.

and suddenly i saw a lot of freezing when i opening the photoshop ... and when i am browsing youtube"

Translation: My mac freezes a lot. It started happening after I updated to 10.8.3. It occurs in a range of applications (and interestingly these applications are those that use the discrete graphics chip).

What part of that don't you understand? What part of that is different to the problem that I have reported?

In my opinion, it is more helpful to have discussion of problems that are likely systematic ones (IE this problem appears to be causes by a 10.8.3 update) in the one thread that having every person who upgraded to 10.8.3 starting their own thread. I chose to join this thread because it was the one at the top of the google search that I did for this issue.

I can see that you have a different opinion. You are entitled to it. You are entitiled to try to persuade me to agree to it. I am a reasonably open minded person, and if you had presented a polite and rationale case, I would have been open to accepting your proposal. However, you lept in with a personal attack, and no justification for your demand that I post elsewhere. I am not going to comply with that. Furthernore, I disagree with you.
