I made a mistake and bought MacBook Pro Ret 15" on Amazon.jp. Yeah, Japanese keyboard. :(. Wont allow return. How difficult would it be to use it with a Japanese keyboard? :(

I know that there are problems with the @ sign and puctuations. What else will I be facing? Really bummed. Amazon guarentee was rejected. They reply 'that i knew what I was buying'. I just opened the box. Hasnt been turned on. So frustrated. But considering just going with it and using it as is. Living in Japan for only 3 more months.

Thanks, thats what everyone says

but ....

Come and live in Japan and learn to speak Japanese first! You wont find an English Customer Service person to speak to, so it could take 3 years before you were fluent enough to argue about something like this! And the Japanese dont veer off the rules. If my incorrect purchase does not fall in the correct category, then no emotional talk will help me one iota!! Every single thing is Japanese, so I am pretty DUMB STUPID INSANE to have done something like this. Verrrry blonde moment! (Apple shop themselves sell with American keyboards, should have gone there)

We do have relocation agents who speak on our behalf but the Amazon customer service do not accept anyone speaking 'on behalf' - they HAVE to speak to the PURCHASER. Its the RULES! Dont ever break the rules. And dont ask WHY! No one asks WHY! They ask WHAT? OR WHEN? OR HOW? But never WHY?

They are the most polite and respectful and law abiding people you could ever meet. But they dont have much compassion for a foreigner who made a mistake!!!!

Many keyboard protection covers have black/colored keys with letters on them. I dont know which ones are good, meaning thin enough for comfortable typing and letting the keyboard illumination shine through. kbcovers.com seem to have a stunning collection. S25 each. ebay has many more manufacturers, I dont know which ones are best.

Under the keyboard of my old powerbook a lot of dust collected over the years and nothing would get this out. So I am definitely getting one now for the new macbook pro.

Other than that, you could learn blind typing : ) should look fancy, jp keyboard. I think I'd like it.

oh, and be careful with closing the lid with the keyboard cover on, I probably wouldnt risk that. It would anyway just print the dirt onto the screen. (as it was the case for the powerbook)

hey you stayed in jp? I didnt get that first. this is the perfect souvenir. I dont think youre an idiot at all, seriously. Maybe I'm an idiot with my fondness of such things.

I'm routinely typing on all sorts of foreign keyboards at work and always set the keyboard to US, no matter what the keys actually say, and find everything automatically, even though I never learned to type properly. it works, really.

When you set a Japanese keyboard to US, it does not help. Various keys like @ * ' ~ will still be misplaced from what you expect in normal QWERTY. Not impossible to deal with, but a pain if you touch type.

OMG, call the US speaking Amazon customer service. It doesn't matter what country you buy, Amazon is considered one company and therefor should be working the case regardless. Never had this issue returning anything to them, even high-end electronics that supposedly they wouldn't take back unless there were problems. There was always a way. Explain your issue to them. You must not be very pushy... oh well, I guess you'll have to deal with it then.

Yip, exactly Tom. I am on it now. Will have to get used to it, but its not a trainsmash! Im going back to South Africa in 3 months. Last time we lived in the USA - our TV got stolen when we took it to South Africa. But they didnt steal the transformer. We are 220V in SA, compared to 110 in USA. LOL! They couldnt use it. Serve them right!!!! Perhaps the same thing will happen in SA with this laptop. Then the insurance will pay out! And I will get a USA keyboard. LOL!!!!

Anyway, this keyboard is much the same with a few QUIRKY things 🙂 ! Im still having a blast adding Office and Lightroom and setting up my VERY OWN FIRST computer. Always get the kids or family hand me downs, - which was why I was SOOOOO upset about not getting what I have wanted for a while! Nice to have everyone sharing my grief. Thanks for the support!
