How come when I plug in my iPhone 5 it says a USB device is drawing too much power?

So when I plugin in my iPhone 5 this message pops up? And don't say it's because my computer is unplugged because it is plugged in and charging right now!

Could be either a problem with your computer's USB port, or it could be a shorted USB cable. Try another cable if possible, or try it in another computer.

Tried it in my Macbook Air and did the same thing, then used my car charger and worked fine! Thank you, but what is the worst the cord could do to my computer?
