IOS 6.1.3 update and maps

I have updated my Iphone 5 to IOS 6 latest version (6.1.3) last week. Since then, Apple Maps doesn't display maps anymore on screen. GPS position and directions appear but on a blank screen. 3G and LTE aren't teh problem, iut works well with other apps and Google Maps. Is there anyone having the same issue ?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.3, 64GB

Hi all,

Case solved. For Goy213,

I have talked to support and it has to do with upgrade that didn't install correctly. I had to reinstall the whole device after having done a full backup through iTunes. I can send you the transcript of discussion so that you can follow the same and resolve the issue on your device. let me know.

Thanks for your help, all of you.

And of course thx to Apple Support. Great and efficient.

Oliver.

Here you go.

You need to backup all and then restore your contents after you have reinstalled IOS6.

Good luck.

Oliver

Olivier:
Since upgrade to 6.1.3 Maps doesn't work anymore

Olivier:
GPS signal is good

Olivier:
I've restarted and reset the device

Sarah:
Oh No! I'm so sorry you are having that issue. Let's see what I can do to help!

Olivier:
but Maps don't show in the background, only route and pins

Olivier:
and this is the same with other apps using Maps as mapping app

Sarah:
OK, when you say that you reset the device, how was that done? There are a couple of ways to reset

Olivier:
Used Home and on/off hold for over 10 secs. Couple of times.

Sarah:
Ah OK, Do you have either an iTunes or iCloud Back Up of your device?

Olivier:
I'm on iTunes but is everything backed up on it ?

Olivier:
All configurations and specific set ups ?

Sarah:
Only if you ask it to. Go to File > Device > and select Back Up

Olivier:
where is
"go to file" ?

Sarah:
Sorry, in iTunes select File > Devices > back up

Olivier:
OK, done. Where is the back up stored ?

Sarah:
on your computer, there is a back up folder within iTunes. If you want to verify that one is there Select Edit > Preferences

Sarah:
Then select Devices (it has a picture of a black iPhone) in the large box in devices it shows any iTunes back ups of your devices

Olivier:
i'm on a PC Windows 8. Waiting for back up to finish. it's a 64GB and about 58GB are used.

Olivier:
there's no device backup file shown even after completion.

Sarah:
Close the preferences box and reopen it again, it will be there

Olivier:
OK got it. Are you sure it stores everythng. I don't want to have to reconfigure everything.

Olivier:
How will it take to restore then ?

Sarah:
OK, yes it does back up everything, except voicemail, as that is on a 3rd party server

Sarah:
OK, now that we have the back up, in iTunes, are you on the Summary page? - it shows a picture of your device

Olivier:
yes

Sarah:
OK, here is what we are going to do...

Sarah:
Since something happened while the iOS update was doing it's thing, we are going to restore the software back to it's original state. This restore process removes all of the software and puts it all back on again.

Olivier:
OK. How long does it take usually?

Sarah:
Once that is done, we will test the maps, if it is functioning correctly, then we will restore your back up. Does that make sense?

Olivier:
Yes it does. Let's go. I trust you know what it will do !

Sarah:
It usually takes about 20 mins, I can email you the directions and if you have any questions, you can always chat us back. would that be alright? I will get you started, of course

Olivier:
Ok fine. Let's go.

Sarah:
OK, on the Summary screen, find where it says restore

Sarah:
it's usually near the right side

Olivier:
Restore iPhone ... got it

Sarah:
Perfect

Sarah:
select that and follow the instructions

Olivier:
need to synchronize apps first

Olivier:
doing it

Sarah:
When iTunes asks you if you want to restore as a new device, or from a back up, select As A New Device

Olivier:
Hold on! is it down the page or up ? Restore Iphone or Restore BackUp ?

Sarah:
restore iPhone is correct

Olivier:
Ok. It still says that there are purchased items on the phone not transferred to itunes library. Even after sync. ???

Sarah:
OK, we need to Transfer Purchases

Olivier:
how ?

Sarah:
the iTunes library doesn't know what you downloaded from the device itself. Transfer Purchases will tell it.

Sarah:
Select File > Device > Transfer Purchases OR, there should be a choice on that warning box

Olivier:
it is transferring 63 purchases

Sarah:
LOL, that will take a few minutes

Sarah:
but no worries, best to keep iTunes happy!

Olivier:
too much apps !!

Olivier:
yes. If iTune's happy, i should be too.

Sarah:
Exactly!

Olivier:
have you had this same issue already ?

Sarah:
Actually, i have not. However, I have seen others with strange occurrences after the software update. That is to be expected, since there are so many variables on peoples devices. Sometimes the iOS gets confused and that is when we see weird things like this happen

Olivier:
OK. It looks like another user at least has had exactly the same result after upgrade.

Sarah:
Possible, with millions of devices out there, anything is possible

Olivier:
46 of 63, getting there

Sarah:
Excellent!

Olivier:
transfer done. starting restore

Olivier:
should i do first a new backup ?

Sarah:
no, the back up we did already is fine. iTunes keeps that in a different place than the library is kept

Sarah:
That is why it didn't know about those downloads you have

Olivier:
ok. Downloading sw update

Sarah:
Cool

Olivier:
saying 51 mn remaining but going down .... slowly

Sarah:
OK, so I already email those articles to you, but let me outline the next steps. I will also email this transcript to you

Olivier:
ok thx. go ahead. I'm listening.

Sarah:
1) When iTunes asks for set up as New Device or Restore from Back Up -- pick New Device 2) Then follow on screen steps to finish the set up ( make sure to enable location services - the rest is unimportant as we will restore from back up later on) 3) Eject device and check maps program 4) if issue resolved, do happy dance, then plug device back into iTunes and select File > Device > Restore from Back Up OR, if issue is not resolved, go ahead and Restore from Back Up and then Call our awesome phone advisors at 1 800.275.2273 and refer to this case # 428167088, so they can get with a senior advisor to report this issue. ( that is something we can't do via chat)

Sarah:
wow, that was a lot to type!

Sarah:
It is important to me that your issue is taken care of. Before I let you go, do you have any questions regarding what the next steps are to get this issue resolved?
