Tv tuners

I've read a couple posts about this, but am still a little confused. Currently, I have the original EyeTv tuner. I plug in the coaxial COX cable (same type used for the cable internet), and I watch and can record all of the 100 or so basic cable channels that I need. Unfortunately, it stopped working the other day. My question is, what to get to replace it. I don't NEED HD functionality, but do I need to make sure to get one that is analog... digital... digital only??? I am not using any type of converter box... just the straight line from the cable company. Will the Miglia TVMicro do what I want? From what I read, it doesn't take a coaxial like mine does, and just picks up signal out of the air... is that correct? If so, then I don't think thats what I want. Another thing with that one... anyone know if it works with USB 1.1? Do you also need to buy EyeTv 2 in order to record, or can EyeTV 1.8.5 work as well?

Thanks

...it will work with a straight coaxial cable.

Wait a second. it will work with coaxial? or it MUST work with coaxial? I never read anything about this thing being able to pick up signals out of the air. If it does, that would make it truly worth the investment. Can anyone confirm this? and if it can't, are there any accessories that would enable it to be wireless. See the diagram for what I'm talking about:

Coaxial---->transmitter---->receiver---->TVMirco---->USB 2.0 port.

Yesterday, I got an email from El Gato saying that they have a new EyeTV unit out... EyeTV Hybrid. It appears to be a very nice little unit. Its the size of a USB jump drive, plug your coaxial into on end, and the other into a USB 2.0 and thats it. It also appears to record at high resolutions, but only for Intel Macs.

I might wait a little while and pick one up. Would be sweet to take on the road.

I just purchased the TVMax by Miglia. Right now, I am going to have to rewire my cable line to run behind my bed for easy connection to the TVMAX which is connected to my MacBook Pro via USB 2.0

Is there any product that would allow me to transmit wirelessly what the TVMax picks up from the cable line? Kind of like the the Airport Express allows for wireless printing? I'm looking to set up a model like this:

WALL---cable--->TVMAX---usb--->[???????]---wireless--->MACBOOK PRO.

The [?????] represents the product I am looking for to help me make this work; possibly the Airport Express. Thanks in advance. If this isn't the appropriate forum, please direct me to the right one.

I have the Miglia TV Micro and it works great. I takes a coaxial cable that plugs into the back and then connects via USB to the computer. It is only analog, not digital. Elgato just released one that is analog and digital called the hybrid.

The Micro comes with eyetv2, so need need to purchase anything else. it also comes with a remote.

I highly recommend it.

I don't think you could get near the quality of USB 2.0.
However, they have wireless N that is supposed to be much
faster, but its not quite there yet. Maybe in the near
future.

In a press release it was announced that WUSB has been approved as a new standard for Wireless USB. This is supposed to replace USB 2.0 with wireless transfers on par with the 2.0 standard. I don't think any companies have implemented this in a consumer product as of yet. Read about it here.

I just purchased the TVMax. I was playing with the idea of the TVMicro or the TVMini or TVMini HD, but ultimately I want the machine to do the hardware encoding, not my computer. You mentioned that you have a coaxial running to the TVMicro. That is just the thing I was trying to avoid and is why I'm looking for a wireless transmission solution. I thought maybe an Airport would be able to handle it, but that's only for printing. It seems that the new WUSB standard I mentioned above is going to be what I am looking for. The only thing is that it was just approved and announced so I don't think any product manufacturer's have implemented it in the form of a consumer product. If anyone has any news or updates to this let us know.

Your TV tuner will require an external power source.

I believe you're confusing the issue. The TVMax already has an external power supply. This is not the TVMicro or TVMini that just plugs right into the USB port. Those are BUS powered and require no external power. The TVMax on the other hand is a hardware encoder and has it's own power already.

What I am looking for now is a way to put the tuner near my cable outlet, and then transmit via WUSB (or similar technology) to either my router or directly to the Macbook Pro.
