iWeb Replacement

Is Apple going to be replacing iWeb anytime soon? I really don't like the the alternatives. Freeway Pro, Rapidweaver and Sandvox. I have them all and none do I like. Too many add on things in hopes of making a better page. Too much cost.

I really want iWeb or a new version now. iWeb is OK but limited now because of no further support.

Roddy, are you saying that Webacappella isn't SmartPhone compatible? Does anyone know? That would be BAD.

(It's quite surreal, as I'm writing this, there is a documentary on Steve Jobs on the TV behind me. The man thanks to whom we are all on this forum in the first place. Sadly missed. I'm sure he would have sorted out my IE10 problem if he'd known about it ;-) )

Well, when you say:

HTML5 rendering doesn't make for a mobile compatible website! The developers of Sandvox used the same meaningless sales pitch.

EasyWeb allows users to create a smart phone version of their site in the same domain and inserts the code to redirect visitors using these devices.

what do you mean exactly?!

I'm hoping to find a software which will let me create sites that will look good on Macs, PCs, tablets and smart phones regardless of browser.

On this page I described how to make a smart phone version of your iWeb site and how to direct visitors using these devices to it...

EasyWeb allows you to create this in the same project file as the main site, publish it to the same domain and automatically enters the redirect code to send smart phone users to this version of the site..

Thanks Roddy, and I understand your challenge. It's like someone giving a book review on a novel you started writing, and comparing it to the 3rd edition of an already published novel.

ANYway... I am an avid iWeb user, and I know my days are numbered. I have two huge questions:

1. I hate how iWeb didn't let me use folders. Does EasyWeb?

2. Can I transfer my iWeb files to EW, or do I have to start from scratch?

I was going to buy about 5 older Macs that have iLife09 with iWeb in them, and never breath on them unless I use them for iWeb. I was thinking the 5 computer would last until I'm too old and feeble to create websites. Sounds like quite a plan, huh. (I'm half joking, but only half)

EasyWeb has a self generating drop down navigation widget. Creating a new directory (nested folder) is just a question of clicking a button and then adding pages to it which will appear in the drop down.

You wouldn't want to transfer your iWeb files even if you could!

EasyWeb creates better coded, faster downloading pages than iWeb and you can enter all your SEO stuff and stats inside the app.

EW uses code injection so that, unlike the iWeb HTML snippet, code can be inserted anywhere you want. You can't just blindly copy over the content of iWeb snippets. iWeb snippets create a separate HTML doc whereas EW inserts the code into the actual page. This makes implementing advanced features a lot easier.

External files can be dragged into the app and referenced with relative paths. This makes an operation that was difficult for beginners in iWeb very simply and fool proof.

iWeb users will find the EasyWeb user interface very familiar although there are obviously quite a few new functions to learn.

One of the huge advantages of this app is the fact that the developers respond to requests for new or improved features very quickly.

Although EasyWeb is still in Beta, it is more than capable of creating far more advanced and efficient sites than iWeb ever could - right now. A large number of beta testers are rebuilding their iWeb sites using EasyWeb. They can easily keep the same overall appearance while adding better features.

I am also looking for an iWeb replacement. I am currently using iWeb to make a very simple website (a website for my students that just contains links to pdfs, etc). It works great on my laptop, but I am working more and more mobile-y and doing nearly everything on my iPad or on other Macs on campus. The only problem I have with iWeb is that it seems like the website exists on my laptop and gets uploaded, and I can't figure out any way to update/sync from other computers or other devices.

So I am looking for something that works exactly like iWeb, but allows me to do basic updating from multiple computers/iOS devices. I don't mind paying something for software if its easy to use, but I don't want to have to pay for webhosting (which someone mentioned is the only way to use EasyWeb), becuase I get hosting through the university.

Any advice? Thanks!

There are multiple posts on the facebook page that explain how to get hold of the application.

Just like this forum, everybody asks the same question over and over again without reading the answers that are given over and over again.

From the posts you will also learn that it's an iWeb alternative for the Desktop computer.

Here you can look at some videos :

And here are links to some beautiful crafted easyweb pages :

Have you considered something like Blogger? There is an app for the iPhone and iPad. Then on your iWeb website, just put a link to your Blogger page where you could update things in a more timely manner. WordPress is a similar option BUT for me, I just can't get my head around it. Found it to not be very intuitive. But I'd keep the website as a portal.

Hey Guys,

First of all, THANKS to all who provided responses. I have arrived at a much simplier solution for my 4 websites. Since I plan on upgrading my old 2008 Intel iMac anyway, I might as well keep it AND iWeb. I believe the new iMacs will allow an old iMac (my old one) to shadow if connected by an ethernet or Thunderbolt cable. The tech support guys in San Francisco said it was possible, but who knows until you try it. Thanks again for all your responses, I didn,t know there were so many options out there.

I really find it amazing that since there really is no "equivalent" application to iWeb out there (I mean, look at all the software that's mentioned in answer to the same old "Is there an equivelent/replacement to iWeb out there?), that Apple would drop it entirely, especially since it's so easy and fun to use in comparison to all the others.

This is in contrast to Pages '09, which Apple seems to have abandoned (amidst the every increasing wails from the user base). At least the video tutorials for iWeb are still on Apple's Support page... so Apple hasn't abandoned the app entirely (like they seem to have done with Pages '09). Makes me wonder...

I'll be sticking with iWeb until I can't work it anymore. I'm using iWeb under Mavericks, and so far, the only thing I can't do is semi-automatically "announce" my updated web -- I have to do that manually. (I count myself lucky, or maybe there's something I haven't discovered yet).

Well, this is simply not true about Pages and if you have updated your Mac to Mavericks then you would know this. iWork and with it Pages, Keynote and Numbers have been totally re-written from the ground up for the new Mavericks, so no, Apple has not left Pages behind.

It is pointless discussing the ins and outs of iWeb, because Apple made their choice with this over a year ago now when MobileMe went in favour of iCloud which does not offer web hosting, so there is no point in them updating iWeb any longer.

EverWeb is very similar to iWeb and takes no learning at all - go and check it out at http://www.everwebapp.com.
