Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Why is there no Fax MODEM software for Mac OS X Mountain Lion? I want to be able to have more than basic sending capabilities. Like a fancy cover page and fax confirmation log and printout, etc.

First, I should say I DO NOT want to use (and pay for) a internet fax service. I want MAC software for my FAX modem.

I want the ability to create advanced cover sheets and print confirmation of fax pages. The very basic functionality most fax MODEM software packages provide. There appear to be none currently for the Mac as of this writing on March 28, 2013.

There are plenty of current fax software packages for Windows. Why are there no packages compatible with the latest Macs? Unbelieveable! Yes, I realize FAX is legacy technology, but there are plenty of businesses that stil use fax. Small tiny entities like the Government of the United States and various banks like Chase and Bank of America.

Very frustrating that the US Robotics modem that is certified compatible with the Mac only has Mac drivers available. The software package included with the modem is for Windows only and the web site has no downloads for the Mac other than the current drivers.

The developer that creates a Mac fax package will have a monopoly. Please!? 🙂

Well no way in the world would I email student loan documents, medical prescriptions, or anything with my social secuity. In fact some dumb employers these days ask applicants to fill out the tax form and email it before working but only a fool would do so. I have had to turn down possible jobs when I was looking for one by employers that only accepted this info via a insecure method and would not accept faxes or snail mail.

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to throw in my two cents:

Perhaps there is a way to extract the necessary files from the last OS you installed that supports faxing. I remember that there was a time not too long ago when someone wanted something that was not there in the then-current OS. They took all the files they needed from the beta OS.

All version of OS X support faxing, so this procedure makes no sense.

What is no longer supported, from Lion onwards, is Apple's USB dongle modem that was a controllerless or software modem based on the Motorola SM56 design. Full controller USB modems are fully supported.

Hi

This may not help much but its what I do. The fax software that comes installed in Lion preferences is mimimal at best but it will send a fax and recieve one with some options you can select. It will also store a confirmation. For everything else that I need from the software I use Pages and make templates for my coverpage When I print I select the PDF drop down in the lower left corner. there you will find an option to fax PDF. That brings up the minimal software. Any software that prints will fax PDF. So if your using office it still applies.

Hope this helps somewhat.
