Stolen iPhone 4S...any way to track it? other than using the Find My Iphone app

Hi. So yesterday, my iPhone 4S got stolen while I was in PE class.

Immediately after I realized that it was gone, I called my dad and he cancelled the service for me (Verizon) so that the person who stole it would not be able to use it.

I've been checking my phone's status on the Find My iPhone app regularly, but it keeps saying that it's offline.

So I was wondering, are there any other apps, websites, ANYTHING that I can use to find out where my phone is or turn it on? (so i can track it..)

also, i didnt have iCloud on that phone.

(as in i didnt turn it on on the phone itself)

is there a way to get all my photos that i had on my old phone back?

for example, if i get a new iphone, would i still be able to transfer the photos that were on my stolen iphone onto my new phone? (without iCloud....just using the same apple id user and pass)

Thanks.

O and one more thing..I read on other sites that I shouldn't contact the police because they just file a report and put the case aside.

Do you recommend that I still report it to the police..just in case?

When your dad shut the phone off no internet. No internet means it's offline. You need to deactivate the phone. If find my iPhone was not installed on it or enBled. You would not see it as a registed device. Would say no devices if there was nothing to track. Turn it back on for a day. If it's verizon it shouldn't even need to dial *228 cause of the SIM card the 4s has.

Hi

I just lost my phone today at a stop in Vermont during a long greyhound bus ride between Boston and Montreal. I have googled some possible solutions that I could try in order to restore my phone. FindMyPhone always says my phone is offline (the same was the case for my laptop during the bus ride even though sometimes I could connect to the internet on the bus). I wonder if the bad connections would actually make the phone "undetectable" by FindMyPhone.

I also have come across the idea of pinging. But, am not sure if this works for this case across the border (my phone's carrier is Fido in Canada, while it's roaming with at&t at the time it was dropped).

I find your comment very optimistic. It gives me some hope for locating my phone. Would you suggest anything I could do? I am more than happy to talk with you for some substantial suggestions. I feel very upset and frustrated because of the lost phone and photos etc. 😟

********* is my contact address.

I forgot to mention that I have tried to call my phone many times, it always rings but is never picked up.

The best is yet to come.

Indeed, after I've gone through in more detail the comments in this thread. I grew more skeptical of the methods (indeed very vague as I perceive them) that AlaskanElizabeth mentioned.

I kept updating FindMyPhone on iCloud and still my phone always remains offline.

And, yes, I really meant the best is yet to come as I typed it in the first sentence here. It actually has come this morning: I haven't slept since my phone was lost. And I kept calling my number, and it just rang and nobody answered. at 7:30am, it suddenly became unreachable. I actually thought the phone either ran out of battery or the person who took it just switched it off or took out the simcard. I tried to prepare myself for the worst that it's very hard now to do anything, even though I had thought of asking my service provider to ping the phone. Then, it became reachable again at around 10am. I also called the service provider, whose customer services said they could not track the phone by any means at this point. The miracle then happened shortly when I called my phone again. It was finally answered. A woman picked it up and they were hoping to reach me and returned the phone. But, they are now down in another city and would come up to where I am and return the phone to me in a couple of weeks, which is indeed very fine with me.

But, really, this time FindMyPhone doesn't work, as my phone was roaming and I didn't turn on the cellular data. The area was also hard to obtain stable wifi (though there is free wifi at certain points). When I turned on my laptop on the bus ride for instance, FindMyPhone could not detect the location of the laptop either.
