Monoprice 27" Monitor Mac Mini

The Set Up

Connected a new Monoprice 27" IPS LED CrystalPro Monitor WQHD (2560x1440) to a Mac Mini 5,2 with 8GB RAM an all software/firmware updates installed.

The monitor connects with a MiniDisplayport + USB to Dual Link DVI Adatpter.

Dual Link DVI is the only way to connect the Mini to the monitor.

The Problem

Monitor comes on and looks fine during start up — the gray screen with the dark gray Apple Logo appears, as does the spinning wheel. Then, at the point at which the Login Screen should appear, the monitor goes off and will not come back on.

Also, if I futz with the on/off button enough on the monitor, the monitor will come on and show me a good picture for a brief moment (2 seconds).

I have tried 2 different Adapters from 2 different companies, so I doublt that's it.

I have also tried t different cables from between the Adapter and the Monitor.

Before I return this monitor, is there a chance it's the Mac Mini? Anthing anyone can think of to troubleshoot this problem?

+1 same issue here. latest MBP 15", also driving another thunderbolt display. same behavior...comes on for a quick second and then goes black. the OS still recognizes the monitor is being attached (and, i guess, on), but the display isn't actually going through

After some frustration, I decided to buy the actual official apple dual link adapter from the Apple Store. I plug it in and it works like magic! I'll be returning my monoprice mini-display port to dual link dvi to monoprice.

All this time Monoprice has been blaming Apple for this issue when it's monoprice's adapter.

Ditto. Just confirmed on two 15" rMBP.

$99 extra ain't too bad considering how great the monitor looks and the price.

I just connected my mid 2011 Mac mini (10.8.3) to a Monoprice 27" display using an Apple mini displayport to dual DVI and I am having the same issue in the original post (screen is on for 4 seconds, then off for a second, then repeats the cycle.) The firmware on the adapter is 1.0.3.
