Service runs in, but not outside, Automator

The following service worked through 10.8.2:

User uploaded file

After upgrading to 10.8.3, this service no longer works as a service. However, if I select a folder on my desktop and run this service in Automator, it works. in other words, this service runs inside Automator but no longer works outside Automator as a service on the contextual menu of a folder.

Anyone know how to get this service working as a service?

So, the next issue is, how can one automatically monitor running processes to detect when Automator Launcher has hung and then kill the Launcher process? I don't see anything obvious in automator itself to do that. ...

On further reflection, I added the Growl Notification action to the end of the workflow. If I don't see the notification, the service did not run, and I know to use atMonitor or the Activity Monitor to look for a hung Launcher. That should suffice for the kind of workflows that don't open windows or request user input, and can fail silently.
