Keyword Problem - I can't remove one!

Hello,
Hoping someone here can help me.
When I was batch importing a load of photos I managed to tag quite a number with the following keyword sequence:

, Japan, Tokyo

Yes, there is a mysterious ', ' before Japan. Now, In the filter dialog I have a keyword that shows up with no text. Clicking this brings up 300 or so images.

Any idea how I can batch remove the ', ' that has found it's way into my keywords - manually would take a long time!

If not already showing, hit "shift D" to show the control bar at the bottom.
Then if not already showing, hit "D" to show the keyword controls.
Highlight all of the images you wish to remove the keyword from.
In the bottom panel on the right side is a space to enter keywords. Enter the funky keyword you want to remove. Hit shift enter and that will remove the keyword from all images.

Hi Gregory

I tagged them in error when I was going a batch import.
The first batch came in grand. Then I removed the first keyword and didn't realise that I had left the ', ' so I think I tagged them with ', Japan, Tokyo'.

Unfortunately I didn't realise until I had individually keyworded many images and set about putting together a book. Now I can't make the bad keyword go away.

If there was a way with applescript I'd sure love to know!

Cheers
Alex

I tried lots of things with AppleScript to delete the rogue keyword but it wasn't possible. Aperture hiccupped every time I asked it to do anything with the keyword other than 'get' it. the programmers obviously didn't anticipate someone creating a blank keyword which is what happened when you placed the comma at the beginning of the keyword string.

I'm going to try UI Elements but I'll need help from PreFab UI Browser to do it. there are too many UI elements in Aperture's interface to guess their hierarchy. I'll let you know how it goes.

Alex,

do all of your problem images have the exact same keyword string? ie, do they all have ", Japan, Tokyo" ?

if they do, or if groups of images have the same keyword string, you can solve the problem (I just tested it) by using Metadata/Batch change....
select all of the images with the exact same keyword string.
choose Metadata/Batch Change.
turn on the checkbox for Keywords.
(Aperture automatically loads the keyword from the Primary image)
remove the rogue (blank) keyword and its comma from the Keyword field.
click OK.

Aperture will change all of the keyword strings for you.

I'm still working on an AppleScript. it's doable with UI elements. I've already been able to get and set the Keywords using UI (in a known window configuration) but I'm not yet able to move to the next image.

if the Batch Change works, then we won't need the AppleScript 😉
