Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 16GB RAM Upgrade

Im looking at getting at MacBook Pro 13 (Non Retina) i7 model, but it only has 8GB of RAM. I want to attempt the following guide: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2012+RAM/ 10374/1

but im scared it will void the warranty. Will it?

that's insaine dude... this maybe a silly question to ask but i just want to make sure before i do it.. i want to upgrade my mid 2012 macbook pro to more than 8gb but i noticed on the specs section on here that it says 8gb is the maximum that the mid 2012 model can be upgraded to so im slightly confused.. will it actually work if you install more than 8gb alone or do you have to mod it for it to work???

Cheers

Simon

yea, I bought this one from amazon, comes pretty cheap:

just make sure once you got the new ram, you bring your mbp and your new ram to any Apple Store and ask them to replace it for you.

I tried to replace mine by myself and ended I screwed up the thing (the ram stucked at the bottom slot and the cover somehow no matter how hard I tried still did not closed properly). I took my mbp with the new ram to my nearby Apple authorized service center and they fix it for me free of charge =)

by the way, my mbp is mid 2012 15" non retina.

Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 16GB RAM Upgrade

People dont seem to understand the question at the top ...

If you look at the link here it says that the maximum memory for the mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13 " is 8GB : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#link1

Maximum memory8 GB

So my question here is : Will i run to any problems with installing a 16 GB of RAM in my mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13" ?

Apple only recommends what they have tested exhaustively.

Apple tests what is currently available, with an emphasis on what is available directly from Apple.

Apple does not test any Hardware that has been discontinued, except for regression testing of New Mac OS X versions with older "standard" Hardware models.

So the advice you get from Apple will be extremely safe, and extremely conservative.

Some third parties have an interest in testing the extreme limits of what can possibly be supported. OWC, for example, makes a lot of their money on aftermarket memory, so they are very interested in pushing the limits -- PROVIDED these configurations are stable and supportable. Since they provide free support, unstable products and unstable configurations cause them support nightmares.

Just letting people know that I've successfully upgraded the RAM on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro - from 8Gb (2 of 4 Gb Hynix sticks fitted ex the factory) to 16Gb (2 of GSkill 8Gb sticks) of DDR3 1600 RAM. It was easy to do, and worked instantly. It even boots up faster but I haven't used heavy applications yet. I sense already that they will run a lot faster.

A little while ago, I replaced the original spinning hard-drive (which was operating too slowly for my liking) with a 500Gb Samsung 850, and that worked perfectly, too.

Full of enthusiasm for the above, we've just replaced another original drive from a friend's mid 2012 MacBook Pro, with a 1Tb Samsung 850 and that worked perfectly, too. The whole job took 10 minutes and made a HUGE difference to the performance cf. the old 750Gb spinning drive.

Just wanted owners to know, because you can feel really good about owning these laptops knowing that upgrades with quality components should be very easy to do and should work really well, extending the life of the laptop and giving better performance from the next boot-up.

HI,

i have just done the same as you and upgraded my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to 16gb using 2x 8gb ATech DDR3 12800 1600MHz and to start with everything was fine, booted up quickly etc.. But then all of a sudden about 5 mins into surfing the web the screen went blank and it started to restart itself. It has only done this since I put the new RAM in.

my MacBook is fully updated to OS X El Capitan....I've read on similar threads that downgrading to OS X Yosemite might help????

another thought I had is that I've read that some people only swap one of the RAM chips, so I would have 1 of my original 2gb Ram chips and one 8gb upgraded chip, so having a total of 10gb which would be much better than my original 2x 2gb Ram.

has anyone had this same problem? I'm rather amateur with this sort of tech so any help would be great!

thanks

HI,

i have upgraded my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to 16gb using 2x 8gb ATech DDR3 12800 1600MHz and to start with everything was fine, booted up quickly etc.. But then all of a sudden about 5 mins into surfing the web the screen went blank and it started to restart itself. Sometimes it restarts itself even if I'm not using it. It has only done this since I put the new RAM in.

I have checked the system report and the ram memory is recognised correctly as 2x 8gb slots.

have you got any tips that might help me out?
