Seagate 4 TB SAS (Enterprise) Drive not Recognized - Help
Hello Experts, I need some help.
I have 2 Macpros both 5,1 (mid 2010 and mid 2012).
I installed a Seagate 4 TB Enterprise Class SATA drive into one of the drive bays of the mid 2012 macpro, and it was recognized instantly and I formatted it without any problem.
It was so easy I decided to do the same with my other machine the mid 2010 macpro. The only difference is that this machine has SAS drives ( specifically 4 X Seagate 450GB 15.7K rpm ) and the mandatory Apple RAID card to support the SAS drives. When one of the drives failed I decided to replace it with a Seagate 4 TB Enterprise Class SAS drive.
I put it into bay 4. When I booted up the macpro, the drive was not recognized anywhere, not on the RAID card Utility, not on Disk Utility, and not on the SAS pane of the system profiler. Now I know from reading many posts here that the Apple RAID card is not well reguarded but surely that can't be the problem. I only got it so I could run the fast Seagate Cheetah SAS 450GB 15.7K rpm drives, since I use this machine for video editing.
So I am thinking this problem could be due to:
1) System/card not supporting 4TB size drives.
2) Bad Bay.
3) DOA Drive. how can I tell ?
4) Firmware problem / compatibility with this new drive.
5) Something else.

PS: if it is a firmware problem then how do I go about fixing it or would it be easier just to get another different drive of a different manufacturer or size?
