I suddenly got a problem with the process "diskimages-helper" created by my account. It consumes 100% CPU time constantly.
I have read other threads about this, but they are +4 years old and I doubt the solution is the same since that was a different operating system.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this phenomena suddenly appears and what a solution might be ??

This happened to me and it turned out I was running Google Chrome from a disk image, rather than from the Applications directory. Check to see what disk images you have running by opening up a window in finder and checking the "Devices" section of the left sidebar.

I hardly ever reboot. In my previous life in Windows rebooting would be an obvious path, but now in the current Mac life I never thought about it until you mentioned it J
All problems gone ... J
If you haven't already done so, reboot and see whether the problem goes away.
Remember in the future... "When In Doubt, Restart!"

No telling - something just got 'stuck', it seems and only became un-stuck with a reboot - it happens...
