Httpmail plugin instaled still no account type httpmail???

SUB: Hotmail and MSN email to merge with Mail program using httpmail plugin.

hi,
few weeks new to Mac and so far loving it, but still having minor problems:

i've downloaded the daniel parnell plugin:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin/
and installed it using the installer program that came with it. after an apparently successful installation (pop up window, succeful installation) i go into the Mail program try and add an account, however there is no account type listed as httpmail. ( i have a nonfunctional account set up so that i can get into mail to begin with, to reach preferences option later to add actual hotmail and msn server accounts)

i then followed the steps of the pdf readme file, page 3 re: using the terminal to install plugin. still no httpmail option in account type. ive tried this while no other apps have been open.
(4. In the Applications folder, look for the Utilities folder. Open the Terminal applica-
tion. Execute the following commands in a Terminal window, paying great attention
to the exact spelling, then press return.
defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1
defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 1
or the following if you are running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1
defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 2
Using copy and paste is a good way to enter the commands into the Terminal.
If you get any error messages after entering the command you will need to either in-
stall the BSD subsystem on your Mac OS X install CD, or use the installer program
in the disk image.)

as far as i know im doing this right, however not familar with computer jargon/code whatsoever.

i read a previous post re: setting Mail to open using Finder>get info> check box open with rosetta ??? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2230151&#2230151 (the last entry)

im not sure if i "got info" on the right page/section. i went into the bundles folder and tried to get info on the httpmail file itself, no rosetta option to check.

my question: is anybody else having this similar problem, and is there a solution. from what i have read in previous posts, this is not a common problem...

Thanks in advance

chris

Welcome to the forums, and to Mac...

for this plug-in to work you have to have your mail running in rosetta. (while mail is closed click on the app in the applications folder, command-i to get info, click open using rosetta.

this plug in hasnt been updated to run on universal yet, so until it is, this is the only way to work it. this will slow down your mail, but probably not too badly.

edit: also when creating a new topic, please mark it a question if it is one, this would be one, that way it can be marked solved when it is.

To place Mail in Rosetta mode, you need to right-click on the Mail application, not one of the files contained in it.

This would be the actual application that has an icon / picture of a postage stamp.

If you want to make sure you are right-clicking and using "Get Info" on the right file, then try this:

Exit Mail (close it).

then, go down to your "dock" on the bottom of your screen, and then find your Mail icon.

Now, click once and keep holding the mouse button down on the Mail icon (this is called "Click and hold".

You'll see a menu pop-up from the mail icon.

Choose "Show In Finder" from the menu, and release the mouse button.

Now, you'll see a Finder window open with the Mail program's icon highlighted.

You can now right-click on that Mail icon, and choose "Get Info".

Choose to run it in Rosetta, and then close the "Get Info" box.

Now, open mail, and see if your httpmail works.

Hope this helps.

I'm totally new to Mac and OS X as of two days ago and since purchasing my first Macbook, I have had any number of problems this one being a major source of concern as I've had my hotmail account for nearly 10 years.

The information in this thread solved the problem. It was so simple yet no one, new to mac like myself, would ever think of it.

I'd like to SINCERELY thank those that posted to this thread and to all the dedicated mac people that take the time to post to these discussions. You are REALLY reaching people and helping through the transition

Thanks
