My iPads only have WiFi. I thought when the technician referred to components, he was not differentiating between the wifi and cellular models. I had to make an appointment to talk to a technician. I will take your suggestion and try to get more information from them.
Hi soontoberetired,
The tech wasn't differentiating between the Wifi and Cellular models, and should have been. As deggie indicated, the only "component" that would make a difference here would be the cellular one.....and you don't have that, so it should have been made clear that your iPad can not be awakened for FaceTime calls....
Cheers,
GB
Gail, keep in mind we are getting a description of what the tech said through the OP.
I have had the application restored. "The wifi connection does not close when the iPad is asleep or the cover is on." The technician had me turn the Notifications FaceTime off and then on after 30 sec. I then turned off my iPad for 30 sec. The application now works as it had in the past!
Point taken, deggie.

I am not a participant in the inuendos exchanged by the two of you. I am happy to have my iPad working as it should and am happy that you have gained some new information regarding this technology. Without your encouragement, if I had accepted the word of the first technologist, I would still be without the ability to communicate with family via FaceTime. (However, if I had accepted your statement that once asleep, the iPad is incapable of receiving FaceTime calls, I would still be hooped.)
Hi there,
My 'alreadyretired' mother has been having the same issue you did with her iPad not alerting her to incoming FaceTime calls when the cover is closed, although it always used to ring regardless of that fact.
I wonder if you would be so kind as to provide a 'step by step guide for the already retired' of how you fixed the issue? The bit I'm not clear on is "turn the Notifications FaceTime off". Did you do this in >settings>notification center or somehwere in FaceTime itself?
Thanks so much.
The reason for this problem can be even simpler: if an iPad user accidentally turns on "Do not disturb" mode (with a button with C-moon sign, located on a bottom control panel, the same panel where "Flight mode", "Wi-fi" and "Bluetooth" indicators are at). If you do not receive Facetime calls, ensure that you have "Do not disturb" mode switched OFF.
