Did all content of iPad 3 get backed up to iTunes

Fellow Members,

I finally found out where the Sidebar was hidden on iTunes 11.

I have now backed up iTunes to my PC.

To make sure a successfull backup was done to the PC, I go to:

Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

At this point I see a Folder that says:

d64fe180273dded30aa44270c73cb84c2ff9

Date Modified 4/7/2013

File Folder

When I view the Properties of the Folder, it says it is 485MB.

My iPad 3 says it has 11GB stored on it, and the app I am most concerned about backing up (Download) has 7GB on that one app alone.

So my four questions are:

1) Did all of my 11GB truly transfer?

2) If so, why is the size of the Folder only 485MB?

3) When I look for the largest size File within the Back up Folder, the largest is 47,976 KB. So which one is the 7GB Download app?

4) Can the content of each File be viewed on my PC, or is the content only viewable on a iPad?

Thanks!

You can't reinstall iTunes without an Internet connection unless you can have someone else download the installer file for you, copy it to thumb drive, connect the drive to your computer, copy the installer to your computer and then install iTunes.

I know absolutely nothing about PC's or security software and antivirus software, but do you think that could be causing your problems? What weird issues are you having with the internet?

You don't need an Internet connection in order to restore your iPad from the backup, but if the iPad isn't being recognized, and iTunes is not working properly, you can't do anything at this point.

I have a MBP that I recently purchased, so I'm still fairly uninformed as how one does things on a Apple Computer

If I can use the MBP, how do I download the installer file and copy it to a usb drive.

I know how to connect the usb drive to the PC, and where to go to find it, as well as how to drag it to the PC Desktop.

Once the installer file is there, I can open it and reinstall it.

Thanks!

You can download the file here in Safari or whatever web browser you use.

http://support.apple.com/downloads/#itunes%2011%20for%20windows

It will download on the Mac but will download as a document but it will also have the .exe extension which I assume would make it a valid installer file. By default, it will download to the downloads folder in the dock at the bottom of the screen.

You can give that a try and see what happens.

However, you can make the MBP your synicng computer by following the steps in this user tip.

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

It's just another option that you can consider.

I've got to go to Band Practice now, so I'll start on the task when I get back home tonight.

But I just had another thought😀

After I've downloaded iTunes to my brother-in-laws HP, why don't I transfer the iPad backup files on my suspect PC to a usb stick and then put them on his computer (not sure where I save them, btw, perhaps to his desktop?)?

That way I'll be connected to the Internet, I'll have iTunes and the backup files on his computer, and I can then do the restore from ITunes on his computer.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Back home now.

So should I:

1) Download iTunes to my brother-in-laws HP, copy it to thumb drive, connect the drive to my computer, copy the installer to my computer and then install iTunes.

2) Make the MBP my synicng computer?

3) Create my own iTunes library on his PC or just create your own user account - and place the backup files in my iTunes library backup folder?

Hi guys🙂

I need your help again.

As discussed earlier in my Post, I sold my iPad 3 and backed it up to my Windows 7 HP Computer.

Well, I couldn't live without and iPad anymore, so I just purchased a iPad 4.

I'm setting it up now, and it's asking if I want to:

1) Set Up as new iPad.

2) Restore from iTunes Backup.

Obviously I want to Restore from iTunes Backup, but that's where I'm having a problem.

The HP I backed up to has been acting weird when I try to coonect to the Internet, so I've disconnected the Internet/Ethernet Cable from the PC.

I can see all my backup files on the PC by going to:

\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

When I connect the iPad to the PC, nothing happens.

When I try to open iTunes on the PC, I get a message that says files are missing and I need to reinstall iTunes.

So what can/do I do, and can iTunes be reinstalled without connecting to the Internet?

Thanks!

Make sure you restart your computer after you update iTunes. Most of the time, the components won't install correctly especially on a PC until you restart the computer. If that doesn't work, try using a different USB port on your computer. IOS devices don't support USB 3.0 (look in the port itself...is it blue?).

Use this article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925

Also, you can always try to reset the AMDS on the computer itself: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567

In regards to syncing, make sure you sync with the computer you usually sync with. I would suggest trying to move the back up files because it can cause further issues with the back up and could potentially cause further issues.

I'm not sure if the back up file is any different on a PC or Mac though...so you might want to look into that. Not even sure if you can convert them if they're different.

Go through uninstalling and reinstalling first, just make sure you restart your computer after unintalling and make sure you delete all of the copmonents in order.

Hope this helps!

Everything everyone tells me helps (thanks)!

If I uninstall iTunes on my unstable HP (before reinstalling form a usb stick), will the backup also be uninstalled?

Also, what method would you chose?

1) Download iTunes to my brother-in-laws HP, copy it to thumb drive, connect the drive to my computer, copy the installer to my computer and then reinstall iTunes.

2) Create my own iTunes library on his PC or just create my own user account - and place the backup files (copied from my HP) into my iTunes library backup folder?

Thanks again!

Copy the backup to your desktop just in case. I have seen a lot of discussions where users uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and they never lost anything. The backup files are not part of the iTunes software and should be left in place when you uninstall, but take the safe approach, just in case.

I would install iTunes on your PC. It will be easier to deal with if you have your own iTunes library on your own computer.

Last questions (I hope)😉

1) When I finally have everything in place on my HP and am ready to restore from the iTunes backup, is there a specefic procedure I have to follow, or will my new iPad automatically know exactly where to go/what to do to get the backup, and all I do is let it do its thing and just hit next when it tells me to?

2) I don't have to have my PC connected to the Internet to do the restore, correct?

Thanks!
