Well, I've done the uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, I've done the "change the file name to iTunes Library.itl" thing and everything else but ONLY MY PURCHASED SONGS ARE SHOWING. This is freaking me out and stressing me out. I have over 1 thousand songs and I don't want to go through alllll my albums and put them back. I'm scared to do anything now. :C PLEASE HELP ME. I DON'T WANT TO MANUALLY DOWNLOAD ALL MY SONGS AGAIN AND I AM NOT COMPUTER/iTunes/Apple friendly! 😟

Importing the media files into a blank library isn't the same as restoring the library. The playlists were stored in the lost library file that has been replaced with an empty library database. See this post and the steps reproduced above. If this has happened repeatedly and you use AVG then I urge you to at least try an alternative. There is plenty of feedback to say that switching AV software has stopped the problem repeating.

First switch AV programs or you're just going to go through this again.

  1. Uninstall AVG.
  2. Reboot your computer.
  3. install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Now recover a working library file.

  1. Rename the current iTunes Library.itl file in your iTunes folder as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl
  2. Select a suitable file from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder and copy it. (Highlight and use right-click menu or press CTRL+C)
  3. Paste the selected file (use menus or CTRL+V) into the main iTunes folder and rename the file (use menus, click in the filename or press F2) as iTunes Library.itl

If you have the patience you may be able to find a suitable .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that holds a more recent version of your library and can be restored using the same copy & rename technique, however the other files will hold rubbish so that could take time. To bring the restored library file up to date use File > Add folder to Library and select your media folder.

This has happened to me a couple of times. I have to into my music/itunes/itunes media/music and there are all my CDs that I've previously imported into itunes that mysterially disappear. Cntrl A, Cntrl C

I go back to itunes, music, click file, click import file, then in the "file" area do Cntrl V and it recopies all my music.

Now if I could only figure out a way to get my playlists back. So far, I've had to remake them from scratch each time.
