No. Firewire or Thunderbolt, only. You can also use Ethernet or wireless.

Sorry for the news.
Wireless: Apps on G4 do not see MacBook Air (nor see DVD burner attached to MacBook Air)
Ethernet, Firewire, Thunderbolt: My MacBook Air does not have these ports.
That may be because the G4 needs a later version of OS X or you need to initiate the connection wirelessly from the G4 rather than the MBA. If the G4 is not the server side, then it should be. The MBA would then be the client.
I did connect G4 to MBA from G4 via Airport.
Newer G4 update: I cannot since I need G4 to run Classic apps, anything above 10.4.11 does not run Classic. Slowly getting Intel updates as they come available.
Would like to totaly break from G4, but some Ge OSX apps not available yet to Intel (like Quicken - they only have Quicken Essentials, which is just a "toy").

There is an Intel version of Quicken and has been for a while now: Quicken 2007 16.1.2. And, there are suitable substitutes for Quicken depending upon the features you require.
If you connected the G4 to the MBA, then try instead connecting the MBA to the G4.
BE AWARE: I found the 16.1.3 version very unreliable (crashing on startup) and I have not upgraded to 16.1.4 for fear of the same thing! Stick with version 16.1.2 for now.
