Have a look at the following (in my order of preference)

I highly recommend Cloud On. It's Excel, Word and Powerpoint in one.
It also Syncs to Dropbox so you can access the files on any device that has dropbox connected.

Microsoft has not released a version of Excel for iOS devices. So while you cannot run excel on your iPad there are alternatives. Apple's Numbers app will open excel files. You can read and edit the files and share them back as excel files.almost all of the permitting from an excel worksheet will work although there are some things that might appear slightly different on your iPad.
There are also some other apps that will work as well with the same caveats.
I'm not sure of your specific needs, however...
You might consider looking in the app store at Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop. You can make a connection wirelessly to your computer from ipad and use the files on your computer - mac or pc, without having to worry about apps that will possibly change your format in an excel spreadsheet, word document, power point, etc.
Sometimes it's free and right now it's $4.99 in the app store. There's something called anywhere access in the app that allows you to make a connection from anywhere there is 3g if wireless is not available, but you need a cellular ipad and my guess is that you're charged by your phone carrier when you access it that way.
If you're using it in and around your home and want to have access without having to sit at a desktop, your connection will be strong.
My son who's on a campus can use it pretty much anywhere. (It did not work in only one classroom.)
There are other apps or programs like it but not all will work with microsft pc's yet.
If you go to the app store, click categories, then business. Apps will come up. Click see all. Then in upper right corner in sort by check name. Then go to page 6 and it should be there. Be sure to click on Splashtop 2, the one right next to it is also Splashtop but it's an older version. Be sure to read reviews there and google the app.
Hope this helps.
Many spread sheet Apps can read Microsoft excel data but only for basic excel function if sheet contain extended functions such as macro and vba codes and control objects this will not work for spread sheets for Ipad.
Microsoft did not make Excel for ipad yet.
I'm not sure if you can put excel on an apple product but I know you can get numbers which is by apple and it comes free with any new iOS 7 product but I have a new Ipad mini and it works great on it. I hope I gave you some useful advice
I use the Numbers app to view and edit spreadsheets.
Thank you jacob! I opt to work homebase and these are all what I need. Have a good day!
