notes not syncing

Notes are not syncing between iMac, iPod, and iPad.

Apparently, according to what I'm reading on this site, the issue isn't being addressed by Apple.

If the technical challenges of getting text files from one device to another is too complex (even for computers), I would suggest abandoning the attempt as noble but failed rather than frustrate users with the promise of functionality that goes unfulfilled. Drop Notes from the OS and restore Outlook note syncing. That worked.

I abandoned a journaling application after repeated and on-going syncing issues. All the data goes into a Word file now. It's just easier.

For notes, I'm getting close to keeping a piece of paper and pencil in a pocket. It just works.

The problem with Apple's iCloud services is that they are unreliable.

The work most of the time, and when they do, they work really great. My contacts, agendas, tasks and notes synchronize automatically between all my devices (Macbook, iPad, iPhone). Life is good.

But sometimes they stop working, and then life is ****: there is no indication or warning about any errors anywhere. Just items no longer synchronize. Trying to figure out what is wrong is an exercise in frustration. Is it something on my Macbook ? Or on the IOS devices ? Or maybe some network problem ?

Because of the unreliability I am also thinking of giving up the whole cloud story.

When iCloud stops working, it is out or your hands, IMHO.

The one time I tried iCloud, I was shocked to discover that the data no longer belonged to me. It goes to Apple in iCloud and they possess the document data. I only access my data through them. What!?

I would rather it be that the master continues to reside in my computer and the cloud backs up that data. It was a struggle to close that account and get my iCal data back in order on my computer.

As a Canadian, I have difficulty embracing the notion that, with cloud computing, I send my data thousands of miles away to a location in a foreign country with privacy protection laws that give rise to questions of security. As with all computer data compiled in single off-site locations, it's just a matter of time before it becomes compromised. Need I reference Adobe's recent issue?

Syncing Notes, iCal, and Address Book data used to be so easy. It traveled two feet through the cable from my computer to my devices. That just isn't possible any more. I have to take time to find and ultiize work arounds.
