DELL 2007WFP as External display

For some reason - and I've called both Apple and Dell about this to no avail - I can not use a DELL 2007WFP on my Macbook. The lights on the DELL simply go amber.

If anyone has anything that might help me, please please let me know - since both of these products are brand new and I would really love to get them working.

Does the MacBook detect the monitor? I have the 2001FP and 2405FP and both works fine, also there's a couple of users here who uses the 2005FP without issues either. Are you using a brand new Mini-DVI to DVI cable? A couple of users reported that they tried to use their cable from their powerbooks and got a dim display with some Dell monitors.

User uploaded file I am begining to think that the mini-DVI port is fubar

Given you get something out of the display with your iBook it's doubtful it's the display. Granted it could still be the DVI port on your display that's at fault but I doubt that. So where do you go from here. A couple of options…

1) Find someone with a DVI PowerBook and plug it in to confirm the display's DVI port is working.

2) Plug you MacBook into any other DVI display to try to find out if the problem is there.

3) Go to an Apple Store and stamp your foot and spit out your dummy. Surely they have displays you can plug into to help you resolve your issues.

How's the MacBook so far though? (except for the DVI port issue)? Does it whine? get really warm? does it "moo"? What I'm trying to say is that if you don't have any other issues with the laptop except for the DVI port, and have some free time, can you try to re-install the OS and make sure it's not "software" that's causing it? I would just hate the fact to get a "good" MacBook without the DVI port working properly than getting one with a working DVI port but also comes with "whining, moo, over heating" issues.

I work with Dell flat panels at my place of employment quite often and i've noticed a few things when using them on a Macintosh systems. Sometimes when I plug a Dell flat panel monitor into a computer using DVI while the computer is powered up, it will not display an image. But, as soon as I restart the computer, it properly recognizes the monitor and everything works as normal. So, my suggestion is to plug the monitor in and leave it plugged in while you restart your computer. Good luck.
