Just wanted to say I learned a great deal from this Discussion, largely from your input, even though I am working in Snow Leopard and it turned out had no trouble either with the Upgrade to 4.0 or the Update to 4.0.1. THANK YOU D.HOFFMAN!

D. Hoffmann, I am in the same quandary as many people on this thread. I have FCE 4.0 on a DVD, and cannot upgrade to 4.0.1 on my iMac with Mavericks. The other iMac in the house is running Lion. Can you please send your link/method to me so that I can use FCE 4.0.1? I cannot edit or open newer files anymore.

Tried the link, but it no longer exists. I'm sure your sick of this request from those of us abandoned by Apple, but could you please post the link again? I'm stuck in FCE 4.0 and can use any files created with 4.0.1. Thanks.

Thanks so much, but I found a very simple fix. My roommate has an iMac that is running Lion. I used the FCE install disk on his Mac, then simply did a software update. Voila! 4.0.1! The simple old-fashioned way (the way it worked when Steve Jobs was still running Apple). I then just copied the application and installed it on my Mac running Mavericks. It is working perfectly.

I had to download the "Final Cut Express 4.0.1 Updater.pkg" but it is telling me

"Final Cut Express 4.0.1 Updater.pkg" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Any idea why this is happening?

Control click on the package, ignore the warning that appears and click "Open".

It should then open normally.
