With all respect Apple, but is there a more straight answer possible here?

a) Yes, the Windows 7 version is also supported on Windows 8 and 8.1, or even better

b) Update the Quicktime prerequisites to reflect it is supported on Windows 8.1

Apple has ended support for QuickTime Player 7 for Windows. They've also stopped on OS X with the release of QuickTime X (ten).

To be more precise, I meant Quicktime 7.7.6, which seems to be the latest according to this page:

And its System Requirements lists Windows XP to Windows 7. That makes you wonder whether this is the right download for Windows 8.1. I assume it is, but the information is a bit basic.
