how do I make the menu bar smaller
Somehow I made my menu bar too big and I don't know how I did it so I can't get it back to the normal size.

Presumably you've managed to reduce the resolution of your monitor - this would make everything larger. Go to System Preferences>Displays>Display and choose the highest resolution available.

System Preferences > Dock > Size
If by menu bar you mean the dock on the bottom of the screen, then find the line in it, hold and drag down.
