no sorry .. it just tested everything about "whine" on my new black macbook.

bluetooth off: whine is on (but it's not so loud)
bluetooth off and macbook is charging: whine is loud
bluetooth on (with or without charging): whine is off

i also got the "mooo" starting at 66°C

but the thing is faster then ****!

so what should i do? waiting for a firmware-update? or calling apple?
thanx for help.

I had a whine too. Also a moo, from the fans going on/off continuesly in a loop when the black macbook had been on for about 10 minutes. Idle cpu operating temperature was about 66 degrees celcius (after one hour, and steadily staying there.) The moo I wasn't worried about, I didn't care. The whine however really got to me.

I found out that:

1) the whine was there regardless of bluetooth/airport settings
2) the whine went away when not using the trackpad. However, as soon as a finger touched the trackpad (or an external mouse was added to usb) the whine kicked in immediatly.
3) The whine disappeared when processer went above 3% or photobooth was open and running captures.

Then I called appletech and gave them a full explanation. Firstly the guy said he'd never heard about it before (on MBP sure, but not MB). Then I insisted that this was not somethin' I made up. He then took contact to a more tech-ish guy in the US (I called the UK call-center), who told him that they were aware, and working on a fix in 10.4.7.

I thanked him and hung up. By that time I'd already decided to opt for a return and order a similar machine, due to the fact that they probably will not release a fix when the problem is not wide-spread (an assumption I make on the basis of macbook owners replying that they are not having this issue).

Just my story in there.

It is the same whine as the macbook pro whine. Just do a google search. However, it is not as loud as the pro, you cannot hear it if you move away from the computer - and I am sure that you would also be able to get used to it. However, while some users are not experiencing it, I consider it a faulty macbook if it whines.

Also, mine was Black, standard config. I'm not sure if there is some sort of higher/lower likelyhood of a whining book if it's 1,8 or 2.0

A fix in 10.4.7?!

That sounds like interesting information.

So many variables, so many different experiences. Despite the difference with bluetooth, I also note that the whine subsides when I'm not using the trackpad or keyboard but starts up with use of same.

Because my usage is such that I practically never hear the whine I am hanging onto my computer and hoping for a software fix - if one is coming in 10.4.7 that would be really good news.

You guys with the moo, whine sounds and heat issues, why don't you just bother Apple with phone calls. That's a better solution than bombarding the forums with this same issues. Believe me if mine would bother me, I would call customer support.

Nothing against anybody here, but some people just troll here, but they can't hide behind serial numbers, personal information and order numbers over the phone to a representaive.

i got the whine too!

it's not that bad.. if i just block it out of my mind =D.

my whine however doesn't go away when bluetooth is on.. it goes away when say.. i open photobooth.. or use the mirror widget. other than that, its buzzing like heck on loose~

called apple support.. they said that sounds are generated from cpu.. and are NORMAL... blea.
