I got a Tiger Woods penalty stroke alert this AM on AT&T. That may supercede even presidential alerts.

Participation by carriers, while occurring, is voluntary. Alerts by the President cannot be blocked or turned off.
Thanks! I knew you'd know.
AIrplane, alien abductions, there may be a worm hole between Ohio and Texas.
The real question is why do you leave those annoyances on in the first place?
No the real question is why you feel the need to chime in on a thread that's been dead for months with inane comments.
Well they finally installed this spyware on my phone a few days ago. Even with both switchs set to off, my phone still is sending out more packets than before it was installed....
Why in the world would you want to install "spyware" on your phone. Fortunately for everyone, this is impossible (unless jailbroken).
Well they finally installed this spyware on my phone a few days ago.
Who is "they"?
They? Spyware?
Paranoid, aren't we.
The emergency alert system is mandadory per FCC regulations. It does not use data AT ALL. It is not "spyware". It can't access any information on your phone and doesn't send anything anywhere. it receives emergency alerts. That's all.

You clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Templeton Peck If you have any clue about what you are talking about, explain the extra packets.
Why don't you tell us how you determined that the phone is "sending out more packets", how you documented that this is due to the governnet alerts capability, and how you came to the conclusion that this means "spyware."
Got to love someone who demands other people provide explanations when they're the ones making bizarre and unsubstantiated claims. Emergency alerts are like SMS messages, and use 0 bytes of your data plan when they are received (and even if they did, you'd be talking about measurements in bytes, not megabytes).
