iphone 5 keyboard not appearing

Try a reset on the phone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if it works.

Sorry, I missed where you said the reset fixed it. It is probably a random act, however there could be something wrong with your iOS, a file could be corrupt. If it continues, you can try a restore, first from a backup. If that doesn't correct it, then you can try a restore as a new device. I had that problem this morning also. I fixed it by double tapping the home button to open up all of programs that are running and closed the ones that are having a problem by holding on to an app until it starts shaking. Once I opened them back up again, the keyboard came back on the screen. No need for restarting your phone. I hope this helps! (:

I have the same issue. Restart solved this but it happend again. I think this is a bug which came with last updates.

Happening constantly to my phone. The re-set works for 1 message then when I come back in a few minutes its inop. I restored phone but that didn't help. Keyboard still not popping up, cursor moves on its own. Seems like that part of the system is frozen(hung). Started happening after last update.

I think I found my solution! I have a BT keyboard in my bag and I think it accidentally was turned on. I turned off the BT and keyboard is working!

I believe your correct - I had a bluetooth device attached to the phone...

I removed it and the keyboard came back.

I just had the same problem. BT keyboard sitting in another room and BT turned on for the phone. Turned the BT off on the phone and keyboard came back.

That was definently not the problem because i don't have a bluetooth keyboard and i barely even use bluetooth. Also re-starting the device does not work, i've tried several times and it would only give me the keyboard for a few seconds and then its gone.

Same problem. No BT keyboard, but BT turned on. Need to turn BT completely off. Then the keyboards appear. Annoying bug. Normally have BT turned on so if I step in my car, I can use the hands free system.

I have Bluetooth turned on all the time and have not experienced this issue. There could be something else happening with your device, but from my experience, it is not caused by Bluetooth being turned on. As a matter of fact, I cannot remember the last time I turned mine off.

I am only observing facts. Numbers app is unusable with Bluetooth turned on. The keyboards for entering any data will not appear. Once Bluetooth is turned of, they are there. Can't help it. I do not own a Bluetooth keyboard or keypad.

I never said you were not stating facts. I was doing the same thing. I also said something else could be causing this that is being taken care of when turning off Bluetooth. Have you done any other user troubleshooting such as a reset or restore?

I had similar problems on iPhone and iPad with Swype keyboard. Changing to regular keyboard solved the issue.

I had similar issue on my iphone and mini ipad with Swift keyboard...I change it to regular keyboard and it's fixed...
