Macbook Screen Mis-aligned

Well she finally arrived and wow does she run like a dream except the fact that when closed the screen doesn't sit straight on the base. Does anyone else have this issue?

It overhangs by a mill or so on the left and underhangs on the right and as a result on the front there is a ridge and overhang.

And as an additional note accoring to coreduotemp i idle at 60C.

IMO CDT is a great app but one that isnt accurate. There are no fans on in my machine, no hot air and its only slightly warm to the touch. For those of you considering a Macbook i would go for it.

The only issue i have is my screen isn't aligned properly but i am about to call apple regarding this so they can pick it up and re align it....oh that and a tiny chip to my case where whoever built it slipped with their screwdriver!

At least that slip will ensure i know i have the same macbook back! I definately want this one back as its fine apart from that so fat (touches wood).

There is also a whining noise and it is coming from my power brick but to me that is a normal electrical transformer noise.

I've not noticed any misalignment and to be perfectly honest I'm not sure if I'd notice anything off by a millimeter.

As for the temps My 2.0GHz reaches about 60c, its funny but its running cooler since I installed new ram, I bumped it up to a gig.

I can think of two reasons, first there's less hard drive activity as there's less of need for swapping - possible
Second I reset the PMU and that may have reset something internal that effect heat management.

So far my Macbook is not only everyhthing I had hoped for but more.

Enjoy

This is my overhang/underhang:

This is the possible cause! See the left one doesnt have plastic at the back allowing that half of the screen to sit a mill or so further back than the right side!

The LCD screens on portable computers are usually removable. It's not readily obvious when looking at them, but there is a method for removing just the LCD panel / screen portion of the case.

So, it should be adjustable.

I would contact the service center immediately. Not because it is urgent, but rather because the sooner you call them, the more likely they are to believe that you received it that way.

Once you've had something for more than a day, they start considering it more likely that you caused the damage.

So, I'd get in touch with someone fast. A the very least get it documented with Apple or the service center you use.

i cant take it to a store i bought it online so they
will need to pick it up and service it?

You can usually get it repaired at your local store.

You can only return it to the Apple Store since you purchased it from Apple.

But, any local Apple store or Authorized Apple Service Provider can repair it for you under warranty.

So, you can go either route.

Generally, you'll probably get faster service with a local repair shop for something like this.

But, if they refuse, then you can always go with Apple.

Most likely you would be told by Apple to take it to your local service center for visual inspection and repair.

But, I would call Apple, have them give you a case number, and then go to the local store. If Apple pre-authorizes the work with a case number, then you will have fewer potential arguments with the local store.

Most of the time, the local store wouldn't give you a problem. But, some techs are more difficult than others.

So, if the store is open now, I'd stop in.

If they're not open now, then I'd call Apple first thing in the morning, and start working from that direction.

And, if Apple provides you with a Case number, then see if they will let you have it serviced locally (most likely yes).

Something like this should just be a matter of loosening the hidden screws and tightening them down again after adjustment. If you can avoid the week or two wait for mailing it back and forth, then I would.

Depending on the attitude of the employee's and how busy the store is, they might fix it while you wait. Some will just go in the back, tweak it, and bring it right back to you at the counter. Others will even do it in front of you.

It all depends on who you are fortunate enough to work with.

Either way, take it in or call. I'm sure they'll get you fixed-up.

I have exactly the same issue. Other than that, the computer is perfectUser uploaded file ( I do have to deal with the low volume issue somehow, though). Very quiet, no whine or moo. Amazing wireless reception. I wonder if there is a way to shift the screen to one side when the display is open? ( I am writing this on a pb12 1.5, soI will check that possibility the next time I have the MB out).

Well rang apple just now.....one thing apple please improve the customer care! I spoke to a lovely chap called 'Benjamin' and i put him in inverteds because 'Benjamin' spoke very VERY bad english 🙂

Nice guy though and i eventually managed to get a serice centre number out of him.....it's 5 mins walk from work 🙂 YAY!

Rang them up and they were local to me so i understood them, they said just call ahead on Tue and speak to a service engineer and bring it in. Whether it will be fixed yet i don't know but at least i feel a pro-active feeling that something can be done and can be done face to face.

Also as a side note it was interesting when speaking to 'Benjamin' to find out my machine has a 1yr warrenty. Apple released new terms that gives academic purchases 3yr Warrenty. I rang apple back up and the best the guy could suggest is take a screen shot of the TOC and print it off!

This guy had no clue and just said how he agreed with me and would passed it on, i really hope he does because i don't want to have to fight to prove this is the case 2 yrs down the line! ALSO apple still try and sell you apple care on the educational online store where i got this from......how cheeky is that conidering its already covered!

i dont want a new one i just want them to align the screen on this one as it works fine otherwise

Well either way, you have two choices. Live with it (I wouldn't recommend that) or bring it to an apple authorized sellor or call apple and have it repaired. If it under 10 days they may give you a new one as I stated but I believe if thats not what you want you can state your desire.

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure if aligning the display is within the apple genius's forte. He'll have to completely disassemble the computer to get at the hinges and that might be beyond is job description and he'll send it in for alignment.
