Mic fan noise clearly audible

Hi,

I recently bought a Retina Macbook Pro 15''. It works absolutely fantastic with one exception: I use it to teamspeak/skype while gaming and because the fan speeds up while running games, the fan noise is clearly(!) and disturbingly audible on skype/teamspeak for all others.

I know it's a laptop, but shouldn't the mic prevent itself from picking up the fan noise or something? Is there any way to solve this issue besides using an external mic, which I would prefer not to?

Whenever you use CPU/GPU intensive applications it will create internal heat and the fans will speedup to dissipate that heat. That is normal and expected. Skype and games are two prime example of such applications. You may very well have to use an external microphone to eliminate that problem.

Perhaps a cooling pad might mitigate that problem, but I have my doubts.

You might download iStat pro from the Internet and it will show you the internal temperatures and the fan speeds. You can correlate this information with the CPU information in Activity Monitor.

Yes, naturally gaming speeds up the fans. It just surprises me that the mic(s) pick up the internal noises so loudly. I would expect the fans to be heard on skype, but it is extremly noticeable and very annoying for other participants of the call.

Well, if nothing else helps I will have to buy an external microphone - which is kind of annoying since I use a USB keyboard/mouse while gaming, which means I need a USB hub... it would have been much more comfortable if I could have just used the interal mics. But what you gonna do... thanks for the response anyway.
