Airport express not working with iPad 4

I did not explain myself very well...

Yes I know the ipad is not a speaker system. I currently have standard wireless internet access this works fine. I have another network in the house that uses a airport express and this is exclusively used to transmit music from my PC to the stereo system. My expectation was that if I set my ipad to that internal network, that it would then transmit sound, irrespective os any app (would like to transmit i real book playback) to the stereo system.

The ipad seems to recognize this network, because when I set the WIFI in setting to that network, a check mark appears and if you dig deeper, the various fields seem to be populated with ip addresses etc.

I have not tried to see if itunes will transmit because it is currently empty (no music). On my PC I just go down to the bottom and select external speakers or network and the sound comes out of the stereo. Maybe this helps explain better what is going on. I will go to the genius bar this pm to seek assistance there.

Ok I'll investigate further. I don't know anything about airplay yet. I think I have that Music app does it come pre-installed ?

Thes stereo is just a regular high end system. Receiver, phonograph, CD player and tuner. The airport express is plugged into the receiver AUX. The audio is routed via the airport express from the computer to the stereo. The stereo is about 10 years old, so it's probably not air play enabled, but it seems to me that it should work because I believe that the airport express is probably airPlay.

Yeah that's weird, the itunes is not itunes it's the store ??

Through a joint effort this problem has been solved. All of you contributed a piece of the puzzle !

I did go to the Apple Store here in Napeville, IL. They kind of showed me how to use the iPad because I had no clue. A bit better now but I'm kind of tech challenged.

I was able to locate the task bar at the bottom of the screen then scroll over to the music dashboard and after changing the networ on settings to the "Living Room", the Airplay button popped right up. I depressed it music from i Real b came out over the stereo. (I was originally going to buy powered speakers, so this exercise save me about $150.00. Great !

At the apple store they upgraded me to Snow Leopard on my 7 year old MB Pro. So now I can sync the pad with itunes on the PC so I can have my music library transferred to the pad. Quite the exercise. I was at Apple for several hours last night and it paid off.
