Hi,
I have a late 2011 macbook pro 13"(I checked the serial number). osx 10.7.5. Apple tv 3 (md199LL/A) version 5.2.1. and i still dont' see the airplay symbol at the top of my screen. I can airplay from itunes, but not mirror my screen. Any ideas?

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs that do not support Airplay and mirroring.
Another solution is the Air Parrot.
AirPlay mirroring requires Mountain Lion (10.8), you're running Lion (10.7.5).

I have the same problem. I have updated to Mountain Lion and have a July 2011 MacBook Air. This is meant to work but I can't see the icon. How can I find out if my machine has the specs. Mac used to me so user friendly - seems that over the last 1-2 years everything is a challange. I'd sure love a solution to this one. Thanks.
shockingly solved my own problem. make sure you are on the same wireless network as your apple tv. we have a modem with router and a airport. i can pick up either singal, but must pick up the airport signal to get the mirror going. hope this helps someone else.
wow, thanks. i checked the update prior to this. still says i'm up to date. then i went to the app store... now i understand. they need my pound of flesh, or 20$ specifically. dissapointing. and im reading some of the reviews... i think i'll pass on this for a while.

I got nearly the same problem maciejfrommiami has, also mbp late 2011 but with the newest updates on Mountain Lion. My Apple TV is in the same network and i'm having access to my Itunes library through Apple TV, but the air mirroring icon is just not showing up... any thoughts on that?
Thanks, I got the specks, but if you notice mine should work based on the criteria. It Qualifies yet it does not work...
That $20 gets you more than just mirroring. It gets you 200 other updates. A bargain at $20. Compare that to what Windows charges for undating their OS.
yes, you're right. i'm a little concerned about some comments re battery life. haven't really read fully into it yet, so not sure if it would affect my late 2011 mbp
