I had to change the processors on your mac pro eirly, 2008, when I took heatsik found that the compound consists of a liquid metal (non-conventional thermal compound) which became as hard as ... metal.
Remove with help of alcohol and acetone was not successful.
Who knows how it is possible without compromising heatsik remove that scum?

There are cleaning soultions specifically made for removing thermal paste. After you have soaked with that, use a razor blade to scrape it off.
Be careful not to allow any cleaning solution under the heat spreader of the CPU! If you damage the thermal paste under it there is no way to replace it.

I had the idea that there is no other way how to clean off carefully with metal coating copper base to the heatsink, I'm afraid that their actions I'll damage the cooler.
If I understand right, manufacturer used for cooling the liquid metal?
But why it had turn hard and has features like a lead / tin for example? Relatively hard and can’t be erased except by physical means.
How about the processor? Can I scrape off also? That sounds barbaric 😕.
Maybe there is another way to remove the connection?
