Can I send in my first generation iPod shuffle to get serviced

I have a first generation iPod shuffle. It will not charge anymore. I was wondering if I could still send it in to get fixed.

You might get a non-Apple repair place that specializes in repairing Apple products to do it, but I doubt Apple will do it. They would have to charge you more than the cost of a brand-new 4th gen shuffle.

I know it can be done, because I've taken apart and swapped parts between broken 1st gen shuffles. I used this web site for the well-illustrated guides.

The trickiest part is NOT damaging the USB plug and the very fragile ribbon cable that connects it to the logic board. I have a great fondness for this model. The one I repaired still works. The 1st gen shuffle has really excellent sound.
