Maximum rem for mid-2007 iMac.

I just purchased an mid-2007 iMac (model A1224) as a second machine for my apartment (to go in the spare bedroom). I've read on Mactracker and various other places that while Apple's official stance is that a maximum of 4gb of ram can be installed, the actual maximum number for this machine is 6gb. One 2gb module and one 4gb module. As there are two slots, and OSX is 64-bit, what would happen if I installed two 4gb modules? Should I not do this, or does anyone think the machine could handle 8gb?

Thanks.

The Mid 2007 iMac supports 4 GB of memory officially, but you can install 6 GB of memory.

If you install 2 modules of 4 GB of memory, probably your computer will only detect 4 or 6 GB, or it's possible that your Mac doesn't start. Install only the amount of memory that your Mac can handle, because if you don't do that, you will have problems. You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo
