I have a similar problem... I have an iphone (with its own discreet number) that has viber installed... and an ipad (with its own discreet number using a different [data only] provider) for my ipad, to which I have installed viber, but am thus far unable to register because it is a tablet - and therefore (despite having an attached number) cannot receive calls or sms's...

I cannot use my iphone to receive the sms - as it already has viber installed and registered under its number - which viber has acknowledged...

All i need is a simple code - sent to the device in question - why can viber not simply send an email...

surely it is obvious to viber that they have produced software for a device that cannot receive sms's - why would they insist on using this technology to register it... ????

To the Viber team:

It would seem that in order to resolve the problems inherent to multiple devices and your current implementation, that you need to eliminate the one-to-one correspondence of a device with a phone number. Consider the situation of a user with an iPhone or Android, a WiFi-only iPad, and a PC or Mac. Your suggestion of "borrowing" someone else's phone number for additional devices is not feasible, as that phone number, unless I'm mistaken, would have to be called to access that device, thus preventing that other individual from using Viber. Since the phone number is key, you might consider allowing a single, case-INsensitive alpha suffix of the user's choice that would indicate an alternate device. For example, 212-555-1212 could be the first device, 212-555-1212p could be the user's iPad, and so on. (Of course, you'd need to disallow letters that could be confused for digits, such as i, l, s, and o.

Restore your backup maybe?

You used to be able to have as many devices as you liked using one "phone number" with Viber but in their infinite "wisdom" they have stopped this. That makes it useless going forward. Any new Apple devices won't be getting Viber installed by me. And I'm sick of their stupid sticker update notifications. There should be an option to turn that rubbish off - something like "I'm not a teenage girl" toggle. I'd happily pay for the app.

LINE is a better alternative. The only problem with that is that you can only be signed into one computer at a time with the desktop version but that's better anyway because you'll generally only be using one computer at a time unlike grabbing the most convenient portable device at the time to respond to a message.
