iphoto does not show Olympus C-740 Ultra Zoom camera

I can't import photos to iPhoto 11 because it does not recognize Olympus C-740 Ultra Zoom camera. I am using Lion 10.7.5.

iPhoto doesn't recognise any camera, what it sees is the Card.

If that's not showing up it often means directory damage on the card, for which the solution is to reformat the card with the camera.

However, be aware that this will erase the card. Folks can often manage to get the photos by using another Mac or Windows computer first.

And read your camera manual - the camera needs to be set to mass storage mode for most cameras - if you have it set to the wrong mode the Mac will not see it

Other possible causes could be a bad USB cable or an issue with the camera - often a USB (or iMac built in) card reader is a better solution that connecting the camera

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card -- I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
