I had a similar issue where my sound had gone, I had keyboard clicks but no other sound, the volume control would move but still no sound.
Everything was normal in the settings area.
I found I had left my iPad in Airplay mode to Apple TV. Switched back to iPad and all AOK.
Hope that helps anyone else as a quick check.
we have issues like these at the store many times...
Thanks for the clarification PD2015.
I still have problems with no sound or distorted sound perhaps twice a week but a reboot sorts it.
Unfortunately my iPad2 is out of guarantee.
I found a sound effects button that needed to be turned on. General/sound
This should be posted on all the forum chats regarding no sound! Don't know how this happened but the slider was pushed over and never even knew it existed! Did the trick. Thx a million.
There are some possibilities for sound problems - most of them are really simple:
(1min 36sec)
It covers the basics:
...and also the worst cases:
So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video.
There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers... or forgot Air-Play turned on... so be sure you disengage bluetooth and/or airplay.
On the 'hardware side', dirty dock connector (30 pin) can make the iPad 'think' it is connected to external audio - if so, cleaning it with a dry toothbrush can fix. Also, moisture in the headphones connector can make the iPad switch to 'headphones' even without headphones connected, making it silent: check if you can hear things with headphones plugged in - if so, try gently inserting and removing headphones a few times and check if you get sound back to iPad's speakers alone.
Once more: no need to reset settings, nether restore - save your time.
My sound stopped working yesterday and changing the language setting to british and then back to british english worked for me. Totally wierd. Just glad it wasnt a hardware issue. Thanks to those who suggested it.
The berova fix worked for 24 hours. The problem then recurred. Help! Same problem on iPhone 5 & iPad since using IO7.
Oddly enough changing the keyboard language worked for me.
Had the same problem and found the mute selection set to mute on the control pad. I must have swiped up and touched the mute button accidentally. Mute never shows up in the settings sound menu. I had even tried restarting the ipad but this didn't work. Music always played but youtube videos had no sound. Once I turned off the mute button in control button, sound was restored to normal.
WOW! I can't imagine how you worked this out... But thank you!!!!
Thank you so very much - the switch was the problem, well not a problem now!!!🙂
I had the same problem on my iPad, it would make sounds when face time was ringing but apps and music were completely dead. I tried the reset setting but had no luck then found this post http://iphonenosound.com/sound-and-speaker-has-stopped-working-on-ipad/ pretty strange but it says to clean the docking station. There was heaps of dirt in there so must of had something to do with it, hope this helps!
What worked for me was turning off DND (do not disturb). If it is enabled then you will see a crescent moon top right corner of screen.
Disable by swiping up from bottom of screen, then toggle off crescent moon
or in settings...
change the language fix the problem, thanks
Berova1,
Thanks for for the information. I changed the language to Spanish and then back to English and that reset the sound somehow. Thanks for the tip. I have sound once again: )
