Audio problem with one episode of iTunes tv show on two apple tvs but audio works fine on same show on iMac

Same problem for me, same solution. Turned off "Dolby Digital Audio" in the audio/video settings.

Same thing happened to me, the family and I sat down to watch "Hide" and all we got was the hissing! I even had a friend with that works for the Apple retail stores, and we couldn't get it to work with either of our accounts! It was very frustrating. We ended up having to download it to a computer and then hooking that computer up to the TV to watch it. I bought an Apple TV so that I DIDN'T have to do that anymore. Glad to hear that others had the issue with the same episode and that we weren't going crazy.

I have the exact same problem.

Turning off Dolby off is not a solution but a poor work around. Sure, you lose the static, but you also lose the 5.1 encoding which is the whole point of buying an HD version of something.

Apple need to reencode and somehow let people know once they have done that.

Well, I *didn't* buy the HD version, and my TV can't do 5.1. :] So it was the right answer for me.

The support doc indicates that it's a mismatch between the appletv signal and the TV. So maybe you can set the TV to "always use DDA", instead?

Nope...I'm having the same issue on two different apple tvs and two different televisions. No other Dolby encoded movies or episodes are affected. I talked with Apple network support and they confirmed the "Hide" episode has an encoding problem. They didn't know when it would be fixed. If I notice it has been corrected ill post here. Hope others will do the same.

I greatly hesistate to call this a solved problem. They did fix an episode of Sons of Anarchy from last fall because of faulty audio encoding. i hope they do that again with this season.

Out of curiosity...how long did it take for the SoA episode to be fixed?

Given that the TV caches the episode, I suppose you'd have to load a bunch of other iTunes content to flush the cache and force it to grab the new, fixed, version?

And, no hesitation about it, this is NOT solved. It is WORKED AROUND...

it was discovered much quicker than this. Perhaps more than just apple TV was affected for that encoding snafu. I did recieve an email from itunes support without logging any ticket with anyone.

I want to say next day i got the email saying they re-encoded it... geeks arnt as scary as motorcycle show fans... perhaps.
