Mail is not launching or quitting and then stopping me from restarting or shutting down.

Mail opens from my dock when I start up and closes after work but will not quit from the dock and also stops me from restarting or shutting down, this message comes up

I can action a Force Quit but then Mail will only open until I restart my Pro.

Running OS X v 10.7.5

Mail 5.3

No software updates availble of updated within the past week.

Any idea's?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Nope, just relying on Mac's reputation but did think that there might be a problem when the message popped up, particularly with the spelling of canceled?
