I can not play specific WAV files on my Mac telling me it is not supported. Same issue on Windows 7. It says it needs a specific codec to play it and I already have VLC and Perian installed.

You have to convert them to MP3 or the Apple Mac format. aif?
Or you might get a player that will play WAV files like VLC.

VLC is already on it and will not play it. I found an APP OPlayer on iPad/iPhone to play them, but still searching for a iMac APP player.
VLC on my Mac plays WAV files. Actually if I copy WAV files to the hard drive and double click on them iTunes opens and plays it. You might not be able to add them to the iTunes library. If you right click on a WAV and select Get Info then associate it with VLC if you double click on it in Finder it will open and play in VLC.
