hi all!

I'm on a mid 2009 macbook air, currently using latest veriosn 10.6.8 snow leopard with enough space etc but when I try to download Mountain Lion from the app store I get a 'this version isn't compatibe with your mac message' even though all the info I can find says it is. Any ideas?

Cheers!

The above shows your MBA will be supported - but you need to be on 10.6.8 first before upgrading.

Check this page on how to find your version: Mac OS X: About This Mac window provides computer serial number

If you're not on 10.6.8, make sure you click the Software Update button to get your software fully up-to-date.

If you're on an earlier version, click HERE to buy Snow Leopard (10.6).

Hope this helps. 😎

Ha! Thanks guys!

I bought it as a refurb from Apple in Sept 2009 and was told it was less than 6 months old at the time! Is there any upgrading of the OS I can do? I have problem in that I have lost all audio output - one day I treid to listen to some music and there was no sound- no chimes nothing! I have tried the various forum advice to no avail so before I schelpp the machine to a genius bar and pay through the nose was advised to upgrade to latest OS....

If you have Mac OS X 10.6.8 you can upgrade to Lion, 10.7.5 by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE and purchase the on-line upgrade code for the Mac App Store ($20), then download and install Lion. However, if you are having a hardware issue causing that loss of sound, an operating system upgrade will not help you.

It would be better to take the MBA to the genius bar, have the techs run their diagnostics and see what is wrong. The tests should be free, repair is not. At least find out first if it is worth it to you to upgrade the system.

I would imagine that you do not have phone support with Apple.

If you install new software you will be given 90 days of free technical support over the phone.

So, if I was you, and an upgrade was possible - then i'd upgrade and call AppleCare and they'll help you over the phone for free, saves you a trip to a Retail store 🙂
