Restore items from trash bin to original folders?(10.8)

Hi,

I'm fairly new to Mac and just accidentally trashed about 5,000 items from various sources on my mac. These items are in my trash bin, but I can't find a way to move them back to their origional folders without doing it item by item by hand....

Thanks for the help!

Try this: open Trash and do Command + a (to select all) then right click on one item (all items should remain selected) and choose 'put back'. Does that restore all them to their previous locations in one go?

Edit: Then rush out and get an external disk so that you can keep a Time Machine or Clone (or both) backup of all your valuable data.

Putback will work on only one at a time....

I did not have any backups... I am still used to Windows, and I was hoping that I could do a quick restore, but I guess Mac doesn't do that either.

Odd. It worked for me on a test of two items.

Maybe try smaller subsets. Also, it could be that some do not have links anymore. They might cause a group selection to fail.
