Trouble installing HP PSC 1510

I am trying to install an HP PSC 1510 AiO printer/scanner on a new MacBook running 10.4.6. I installed the software and drivers from the included CD and then updated everything from the HP Support site.

I am able to print but can't get any of the application associated with the scanner to work or even open. I keep getting the Application Unexpected ly quit message. When I do get into a scanning application I get messages that say the scanner is busy or not configured.

I have repaired the permissions but that did not seem to help.

There is OCR software included with the HP software at it is also installed but the messages say it is not configured.

I have tried all different things and nothing helps.

Any suggestions or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is an update.

After several hours of additional testing and an hour on the phone with HP tech support and a couple of additonal uninstall and reiunstalls of the drivers, we go the scanner to work for photios (jpgs) but not the OCR scanning for documents. We also foubnd out that:

1. The install procedure is to install the version 7.3 drivers and all other software that comes on the CD with the printer.

2. Then, do an uninstall on the PSC1500 device only. The on line tech bulletins go a little too far when they say to do a manual uninstall of all HP software. You really only have to uninstall the drivers.

3. Download and install the 7.9 software available on the HP Support web site. The download is about 97MB so it takes awhile.

4. The software load an icon in the Dock called Image Zone. You will get an Application Quit Unexpectedly message. It turns out that Image Zone is not compatible with Intel Macs. You can and should remove it from the Dock.

5. This will get the scanner working for jpg files. HP was unable to get the Readiris OCR application working. They are actually sending me some different Reariris software to test with them to see if it works. If it does they will need to reoport this to HP and figure out what to do as this additional software is not available for download.

I am suppose to get the software in a day or two. I wil report back after I work with HP to let you know if this works in hopes that it will benefit others.

After receiving an updated copy of Readiris 9 Pro from HP and spending an hour on the phone with tech support, they were unable to get this to work and didn't have an answer.

The problem seems to be with the HP driver, not with the Readiris software. In fact, on my own, I reinstalled the Readiris software after the HP 1510 software was installed and as long as I start with the Readiris software I can do the OCR scanning.
