Can't export from FCPX!! (error -1)

Hi, I'm running FCPX 10.0.8 on a late 2012 iMac and I've got to get an edit out urgently for the client but I keep getting an error every time I try to export. I can't do anything with this video if I can't export it!!! I need help urgently.

I get the following message as attached:

The share operation Master File has failed.

The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 1328 (error -1).

It's 1440X1080 ProRes 422 original footage AVCHD.

Any help on this?! It's urgent!

Btw I've already located frame 1328 and removed the clip that starts there. Still fails. Also tried copy/pasting it into new project and rendering it all again. Still fails.

Many thaks

Hi saddact,

I, along with many others are having the same problem. I am days behind on delivery of of a master disk for a client and thanks to FCPX 10.0.8, I have not been able to. I am currently "sharing" a masterfile and as of now it is working, I am at 73% . . .

First duplicated file, then the below . . .

Here is what seems to be working for me (fingers crossed):

Settings in Preferences set to under Playback / background render unchecked, under Destinations / Masterfile codec ProRes 422, . . .

Well forget that, just failed!!! "encoding frame error" one of many I have seen over the last few days!!!

I was able to export a codec set to H.264 last night, maybe I try that again.

Well I did not try deleting preferences this last time . . . try that along with the above.

Come on, lets get the updates right BEFORE releasing them.

Hi saddact,

Success for me. Hope this helps you - feel your pain!

First duplicated file.

Settings in Preferences,

Under Playback / Background render - unchecked.

Under Destinations / Masterfile codec ProRes 422

"Delete Project render files" under the file menu.

Then delete preferences with http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

"Shared" master file with no errors. Burning disk now.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately I've tried everything here and still cannot export in any way. Get error with everything I try.

This project needs to be delivered TODAY and I can't get it out of FCP X, I'm gonna loose any future work with the client due to this!!!

I'm at a total loss for what to do now :/

All I can think of doing is try to re-edit from scratch in Final Cut Legacy which is gonna really cut things tight and text effects etc I'm using are not in Legacy so it's gonna have to look worse now.

What else can I do at this point??? I've never experienced something like this.

Hi, yes I found the frame number and nothing starts or ends on it, it's juts half way through a stand alone clip. Tried everything else you've just mentioned and no success.

Only thing I just tried was the last thing you mentioned about exporting sections which worked for the first 50 seconds of the film then the next section failed again on a particular frame again with nothing on the frame that might trigger anything.

I'm not sure I can re-edit all this again in one day and who's to say it won't fail again after all that work.

I'm totally screwed 😟

In your first post you said you "re-rendered". What I was suggesting was somewhat different: within FCP select the project in the Project Library and from File, choose Delete Project Render Files. Do the same with the Event Library and delete those renders as well. With the Range tool, mark a range of say 60 seconds . Try exporting. If it does, then do the whole project.

Alternatively, try a short selection with Send to Compressor from the File menu.

Hi, I've deleted project render files but have not done event render files so I'll try that next.

Btw I have now finally got a full version of the video exported!! The project is ProRes 422 and optimized, I exported to ProRes 422 (HQ) and it worked!!!

Only problem now is maybe it won't work again next time, some subtle changes might be needed before it goes live and I fear it will show errors again. Fingers crossed.

Also in previous attempts to send to compressor I did it through the share function and not file>send to compressor so I have that option to try yet.

Things are maybe looking up!

Thanks again guys for all the continued support and advice.

Try these steps, mostly shoud work.

1. Delete preferences using preferences manager tool. now export.. if error stays, step 2

2. Detach any compund clips in timeline and export..... if does not work next step.

3. Copy the whole project clips, paste it in a new project... render it again and export... if no luck, step 4.

4. Check if there is any small red band on timeline (top bar).... sometimes can be very minute... so "command + " the clips and check if there is any red line or band.... now 2 cases

a. if there is a redline, cut the clip portions under red band at edges, if they dont affect, delete them or disable them. the red band shud go now.... and export.. this shud work...

b. If there is no red band, check step 5.

5. Delete FCPX and reinstall.

Can't export from FCPX!! (error -1)
