what is a -43 error

I am unable to import or drag/drop video file(s) to imovie 09. Either method results in a dialogue that shows unable to copy file... the filename and either error -43 or error -5000. The file is a .mp4 What are these errors?

iMovie '08, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Seems that something is wrong with the file name or something. That's what comes up the most with this error.
