I have recently downloaded an ebook from my public library using adobe digital editions on my Mac but want to be able to read it on my ipad mini.
Can anyone tell me how to do this please?
I would suggest consulting your library to see which, if any, iOS apps will handle that.

If the book is in EPUB format, you should be able to import it to your iTunes library and then sync your iPad mini with itunes. Alternativley, you can email the EPUB to your iPad's email address. In the email, you will find it as an attachment, and will be able to "Open in iBooks". Once it is opened in iBooks, it will also save it there.
Unable to import in to iTunes library - only gives me option of opening. Emailed it to my ipad email address but unfortunately only option was to open it in Overdrive and it then doesn't save anywhere. I think maybe this is because it is a book from a public library which can only be loaned for a period of time. Thank you for your help tho!

It then goes on to suggest the two options for reading them on an iOS device. Its why i gave a link that pretty much solves your problem, both of them are completely free it seems. They have their pros and cons, which is also covered in the article, as well as how to load the files to them.

Have overdrive on my mini ipad and have found that if i change to 24 hour clock turm off device and turn on again i can download library books without any problem! Thanks anyway
U have download IBooks from Apple.
How do you do this with Maverick, not possible with iTunes. My own books are not synching with iCloud.
Am having the Same problem.
Since upgrading to Maverick, and the update to itunes.
It has removed the 'books' tab from itunes. was as easy as, drag file into itunes, then drag onto iphone/ipad, but now having ibooks, and it not synching, is a big problem.
Iv looked on many sites on how to sort this problem out, but no luck so far.

I plugged my iPad mini into my MBP
Loaded itunes
clicked "iPad"
Clicked books
And all my books from iBooks were under "books". I'm not sure how, because last time I checked they weren't there. All that was there were the books already on my iPad. Maybe it takes a little time for them to tranfer from iBooks.
Than I was able to select the books that were on my MBP iBooks and sync them to my iPad. This included all the ePub book downloads I had on my MBP iBooks.
What worked for me was plugging the ipad into the mac, opening the ipad books section in itunes and then dragging the epub file I wanted to transfer onto the books section marker. The file immediately started loading and although it didn't show up iimmediately in the itunes list of my books content resident on my ipad, it showed up just fine on the ipad itself. I understand that emailing the file to yourself and opeining it into ibooks on the ipad also works, but in my case this file was too large for email.
1 Go to iBooks on the Mac/Mavericks
2 Drag wanted ePub files/eBooks to iBooks on your Mac
3 You'll find those files you draged to iBooks on the Mac appearing in ITunes
Connect iPad to iTunes
Go to Books within iTunes on the iPad
You can select whatever ePub files you dragged
Sending an email, opening the email, touch the attachment to download, then touch again and open in iBooks. Works great.
